So I just found out that they revised Axis & Allies, changing the map and some units.

I've been playing A&A since high school, and have seen that the game often replays itself with the same strategies used over and over again.

I was curious if anyone out there has played this newer edition and if it addresses the problem of the repeat strats. Is this worth picking up?

I haven't played in like 10 years. I don't know anybody around here that would even be remotely interested in ever playing. If it is harder than UNO these fuckers think it's "stupid"

LoL I read this thinking this game was low ball for difficulty. Axis and Allies is retail once you have played it a few times. If they truly did balance it I it may get a re-peek.

Games that require some thinking include Caylus, Tigris and Euphrates, and PowerGrid. I board game 2x a week.

They balanced the axis much better in the new edition and the whole Karelia stonewall that formed in most games no longer exists. If you played 4th edition with bids, you were probably using around 21 IPC bonus for axis, that is around 6 now for what most people to consider both sides even. They also evened out the value and IPC cost of infantry vs other units (where infantry used to be a huge value over everything else). I think overall it's a better game, but I don't like it as much for some reason. Maybe just nostaglia.

The video game sucked ass because of some movement bugs with planes and carriers... I mean to lose a plane because the game could not count was game turning for playing the japan balancing act.
