If you try going to the Wizards of the Coast website, you'll see a timer counting down and a "4dventure" banner.

It appears that Wizards is about to announce the release of D&D 4th Edition at Gencon this evening.

This is potentially crappy news for all the gamers that have been spending a small fortune over the years....

I've been reading those forums very steadily since I started my last campaign about as year ago. Up until then Ihad ignored them, and all I ever saw or heard was crap about "4th edition's is coming!" versus the "No it's not shut the fuck up!" naysayers.

I had hoped they would be a little longer in the coming of 4th. It's only been 7 years. 1st lasted? What '79-'80ish 'til 87? And 2nd from '87 to '99.

I'm definately hoping if this is true. It's what the much vaunted Rules Compendium is all about. where they are going through and revamping 3.5, but making it totally backwards compatible to 3.5, 3.0 was a non-compatible departure from 2.0

Well, I've heard they stopped with their monthly releases recently, which makes sense if they're rolling out a new edition.
