Cak...,

did.. you.. really.. just ask that question?

It's, Mechwarrior. Of course it's just destroying others in Mech's. Even the novels.. are more or less just about destroying other mechs.

(The novel thing might be an over simplification, but hey.. you get the point)

Yes I did ask that because I may have only played mechwarrior for about 5 min for my entire life. :x

I think he was asking if it was just Mech Deathmatch or if there were objectives where Blowing Up Mechs was not the top priority. Seems like a valid question.

It's just mech deathmatch.

Dammit. I need a mech game where destruction of the other guy is a means to some other end. Deathmatch is boring after about twenty matches; there need to be other assets or resources to fight about. Gimme a vehicle convoy we have to escort, or a crossroads we have to take without using airstrikes because we need it intact.

It wouldn't be harder to make than what they're already doing; are we such an edge case that there's no money in making a mech tactical game?

With no information to go on, I'll say yes. Having an objective-based game where you pilot an unwieldy and complicated robot has an incredibly specific audience with little opportunity for broader appeal. Having a game where you pilot an unwieldy and complicated robot but at the end of the day you're just shooting dudes has a chance to find a larger audience.

After 30 years of the board game. 27 years of the video games, 25 years of a roleplaying game, 100+ novels. [all of which I have played, and read...] Coming up with a 'reason' is easy. Especially if they use actual events from any of the above as backdrop. then you know why you are doing what you are doing.
