I never played the first Deus Ex, sadly(still getting around to it!). I'm betting this is worse, but it's still an enjoyable playthrough IMO.

Pros: Good stealth action, interesting level design. Good world environment even if a little closed-in. Lot of stuff to explore, lot of lore and background, etc. Story isn't half bad, though some of the resolutions to the plotlines are easy to predict. Protag is a little cookie-cutter silent tough guy(with some variance), but there are some bits of fun dialogue such as with him and Pritchard. Augment upgrades are decent if a little imperfect. Hacking and searching out various alcoves make for some nice diversions to the shooting. The cover system works, but it's a bit of a poor man's GoW or ME. Weapon upgrades are also nice, and it's fun to go around shooting heads with the classic silencer pistol while the AI tries to figure what the fuck hit their comrades.

Admittedly, it's been a while since I've played a stealthy FPS, so I was probably taken in a bit more than I should have been. I felt like the cover system worked in tangent with the stealth aspect well enough.

Cons: AI is rigid/inconsistent, no New Game+, FPS element feels dated, better or more intricate stealth/takedown gameplay with more batteries would've been awesome. The dialogue options to change outcomes of some conversation and endgame results feel like the poor man's version of Bioware gaming, but at the same time using the augment which reads the personality type made way for some interesting tactics when talking people down. The difficulty on normal was definitely a bit easy, and anything that came up that was a little difficult was more due to some annoying mechanics(such as having direct line of sight on some enemies and it not hitting).

It's worth at least one playthrough, and personally I'm playing partway through again just to the police station segment so I can fuck around and maybe assassinate some people in the city for shits and giggles.

I played this one through, but didn't buy any DLC. No regrets.

Huh, wonder why Steam hasn't tried to sell me that yet.

I think I remember seeing an ad either on Steam on in-game when I was playing through it. Haven't tried the DLC yet. Wouldn't be surprised if it was an in-game ad on a loading screen though, I remember when they advertised the Star Wars Blu-Ray set in-game as well heh.

Mass Effect 2 had a DLC and update application system within the game itself. I don't know if Steam allows that, though.

Since my copy of ME2 is from Steam I can attest that it does.

As does the Steam copy of Fallout 3, I haven't bought any NV DLC so I dunno.,
