Hmm.. it's getting solid reviews. I want to give it a shot. Too busy playing through Fallout 3 GOTY edition for the 3rd time right now though.
See, and I think much of those have to do with the "consolization" of gaming. In this case, while they claim it wasn't a port, they still don't have basic shit like VSync, proper mouse acceleration, FOV (not even through a hack/workaround) and to even set high-end shadows and the like you need to cfg dig and set it to read-only.
The game itself, has some GREAT concepts, but none of them really come together. It's not nearly as open as I'd hoped (and Dead Rising does better in this area, surprisingly), the AI is TERRIBLE, the "quests" and missions are tired and dated. The lack of model variety and the limitation of on-screen enemies is also not acceptable in this day and age. The voice acting is also not too terrible, but honestly, it seems like they just took the voice actors from Bioshock, made some harmonic adjustments and left the same fucking dialogue. One of the PC's you can play as (black guy with blunt specialty), is especially laughable. For the first part of the game thus far ALL he says is "Yeaahh." It sounds EXACTLY like the guy from Trading Places (in the jail/bar/party scenes). Check it out and compare:

In this regard, it's a lot like what L4D2 should have been in my view. The environments are also extremely well done. This is definitely a prime candidate for the game that should've been, but wasn't. I'm sorry, but as much as I want to like it, and as much fun as it can be at times, it's not enough to overcome the rest and any immersion just comes crashing down. While that's fine if you're an ADD consoler, I expect more from a PC non-port.
