I'm normally not a fan of tower defense games but I was thinking of getting this. Even better that there's a Mac version.

This will be released on the Live Arcade and PSN services I'm sure. Which version to get is the question. PC or console

I LOVE that PopCap does it that way, that's the fucking smart way to do it. And I think I've bought every PopCap demo I've played, or damn near. (The Wizard's Pen is a lot of fun, puzzle game, same price IIRC).

Yay another tower defense game.

It is a nice one, though.

My main complaint about this is IGN and other reviewers who basically follow this train of thought: "Wha.... a game created by an obscure low-budget developer.... AND IT DOESN'T SUCK?!?!? 9/10!!!!!!".

Again don't get me wrong, solid game especially for the money spent. The good gameplay is in all the right spots. But it's more like a several-hour affair.... it isn't quite Left 4 dead(9.0), or TF2(8.9), or Mass Effect(9.2), or Medieval: Total War(8.9)/Empire Total War(9.5).

It has a good thing going for it though with the diversity of plant selection, and really forces you to think carefully - while still leaving enough room for you to devise your own strat that may be outside the box, but it can still work. Getting new plants to play with almost every level is a plus as well.

Read today that some VP from Popcap was going to Blizzard to work on their unannounced project. Cool - it's nice to see people from small, more innovative companies move up. Hopefully he'll help breathe more fresh air into Blizzard's products.

Yeeaaa... I'm gonna have to take your word for it that Mass Effect sucked. But no, those are IGN's ratings.

With regard to Portal, I assume you mean the 8.2 rating Tarot? I agree that that's too low, but IGN makes plenty of mistakes. Valve was still a major developer when they made Portal, so it can't be that you're implying. Several-hour affair maybe? I think the difference is that Portal was a slightly more versatile game and had more to offer than PvZ, especially in terms of how unique and fresh its gameplay was. I *personally* would not put Portal on the same level as the aforementioned games, but that's my personal opinion. It was still a good game, though.

Plants vs. Zombies is way better than Portal. Portal was a really long and gay tutorial and then a boring hour long game with a cool credits sequence. Plants vs. Zombies is more fun and it's longer than Portal. The basic gameplay is entertaining, it's well polished, and there's just enough variety to keep the game fresh until the end.

Also, Mass Effect had some flaws but it was still a pretty good game. The vehicle stuff was absolute shit, but the rest of the game is good enough for it to be in the upper echelon of games released in the past 2 or 3 years.

It's definitely well-polished, but to be honest I think I've seen more variety in a few WC3 Tower D maps(as well as a greater degree of tower placement and terrain strategy). It's still tower defense.

Still, the plants are very unique in their defensive capabilities. Production values and polish are very high I agree. Great sense of humor in the game. For 10 bucks it is worth it.

My kids love this game. I now have ALL of them playing it, even the five year old. Hearing her cheer when she beats a level is awesome. I'm gonna have to teach her "w00t".
