So I played the XBox 360 Assassin's Creed at a friend's place, but I don't own my own 360 (and probably won't). So I was going to pick up the PC version, but the system requirements seem a little steep yet, and reviews said the display quality was lower than on the XBox. Anyone tried it themselves?

That article is 100% bullshit. I had zero problem with crashes, and no trying to validate with servers or whatever the fuck. You can alt-f4 to quit the game instantly. Mouse + Keyboard works very well. The forced widescreen was hardly noticeable. The menu's are kind of dumb but you only see them for about 4 seconds when you start the game. Performance was great for me too, and the game looked great.

I thoroughly enjoyed the game, the biggest problem with it is that they stripped of any replay value whatsoever by forcing you to trudge through the tedious cut scenes and mini-missions any time you want to re-visit a chapter. Running all over the rooftops and shit is fun as hell, the actual assassinating isn't particularly great but it keeps the story and gameplay moving forward. The game also gets ridiculously easy once you learn how to pickpocket knives well and use the hidden blade counter.

What are you running, Droma? I'm upgrading soon, but right now I have an Intel 4300 (1.8GHz Core 2 Duo), nVidia 7300 video (the weak link), 4GB PC5300 RAM.

I played it this weekend and it runs flawlessly.

Specs:

Intel Quad Core 2.4ghz (Q6600)
4GB XMS2 800 DDR2
nVidia GeForce 7900GTX x2 SLI

No crashes, no tearing, etc. I'm only in Memory Block 1 but I didn't have much time to play it. Things ran great though.

I should be okay once I get my 8800 video, then.

Thanks for taking the time, guys.

Just got this today and am at this moment setting it up on my work PC. Q9450 2.66 ghz 12mb cache, Intel DP35DPM, 4gb DDR2 800, HD 2900 XT 1gb version, XP Pro 64 spk 2c and on board sound.

I will let you know how it runs on something other than an nVidia.

Well, it runs super fine on an HD2900 XT with all settings maxed out. Played for about 3hrs straight and not a single glitch.

A few points though. The tutorial is a pain. Exiting out is a pain. Alt-Tab definitely is not a way to go. Make sure you have new batteries in your wireless keyboard or you will never get out of it. (mine died on me and I couldn't figure out wtf was going on....) :)

Other than those things mentioned, it is a pretty sweet game.

4g ram and

Game runs flawless, I'll have to look into the alt-F4 exit strategy, that's the only beef I have with the game.
