It'll be like any mmo you play for a while now, in the end you say "It just isn't what Everquest was".

You'll play it to realize that anymore, it's just another RTS.

The ~20 minute gameplay movie was incredible; you can stream or download all 500mb of it off filefront easy enough.

I'm with Givin on this one, "Meh". All my friends are terribly excited, but at this point i really would have liked to see a new property from Blizzard. Something fresh.

Any game that still resides on my PC, after 8 years of being in existence, must be a pretty damn good game.

Any game that still gets played every other week or so, after 8 years, must be a pretty fun game.

Cannot wait for SC2. Will need to get a new computer, of course, but I am sure I can get one in 2009...

As far as video games are concerned, real time strategy games more specifically, this is a ridiculous statement.

In their own realm, is Wayne Gretzky or Michael Jordan overrated? People may like to say so due to being jealous of their achievements or having biases for other players but the stark reality is that they are in fact deserving of all their accolades, accolades that have only strengthened with the passing of time.

Like it or not, Starcraft is the defining game of the genre and although you’re likely to try and refute said statement by claiming it’s merely my opinion, you need only look to any of the measurable means to see that it’s true (sales, longevity, awards, prevalence in professional gaming, etc.).

How can anyone say "Meh" to this? Starcraft is a land-mark in the RTS genre's.

It was a huge land mark in RTS gaming.

Nearly a decade ago.

I don't think a feeling of "meh" is honestly that unexpected. People just wanted something a bit more groundbreaking than another sequal. Especially in North America. I'm sure there was parades in the street in Korea tho.

Did people really want something groundbreaking though, from the Starcraft franchise? People are naturally resistant to change and quite honestly I think this is exactly what the majority of the RTS fanbase wanted.

People can be quick to say they want something new and fresh but all too often those same people complain when they do get something new and fresh because it either sucks or they didn't know what they actually wanted in the first place.

There's good reason why for nearly the past half century the Corvette and 911 haven't changed, it works, people love it and they continue to buy them.

With that said, it's silly for people to think that Blizzard will be content in releasing SC2 with merely updated graphics and units when history has shown that from Warcraft --> Warcraft 2 --> Starcraft --> Warcraft 3, we've seen significant improvements and polish each and every jump and I'm confident this will be the most significant jump of all.

When I said groundbreaking, I'm pretty sure I didn't even mention a *craft franchise.

It could have just as easily been a brand new venture as well as SC2. Some just hoped more for the former, myself included.

The online play will be outstanding I'm sure. I just have to wonder how much interest outside of Asia there is for this any more.

I loved Starcraft, I played a lot with my friend us 2 vs the CPU via a 33.6 modem (direct connection not even on the internet ehhe) at the time. But I think that type of gameplay is not what I am looking for anymore... I was waiting a long time for C&C3 and I love it but I always end up playing Company of Heroes or Warhammer Dawn of War instead of C&C3.

Of course the C&C3 multiplayer map suck so maybe that's a part of the reason... Symetric maps anyone? It look like they were made in a fucking kaleidoscope... I hope Starcraft 2 gameplay have a lot of nice enchancements and is not merely a Warcraft 3 to Starcraft total conversion.

The devs stated that Starcraft 2 will be a return to epic armies and straight RTS, rather than the RPGish style of WC3.

...are you serious? I'd stake everything I have SC2 becomes a bestseller whether it's the best thing since sliced bread or a piece of shit, people are PUMPED for a new starcraft. I still think the original is the best RTS ever made.

I wasn't terribly excited until watching some of the gameplay brought back some nostalgia. I like RTS, I've just never been great at it. But though I do enjoy the C&C franchise a lot, I really can't wait for this. Watch this demo, which may or may not be new to you guys. I don't visit here often at all so not sure if it's been seen!

They were going Starcraft crazy in Korea when I got there in like 2002, then they were going WoW crazy when I left in 2005. There were riots in Seoul over pirated copies of WoW in early 2004, and you could play the game at just about any PC Bang (internet cafe) on a Korea made server six months before it was released in the states (which is how and why I learned how to read and write Hangul). I can't wait to see what they do with this one!

I love Starcraft. I'll probably get it.

But this looks like EVERY OTHER RTS GAME that I've seen since the fucking RTS was fucking invented.

I've never seen a genre that evolved so little.

What's different here? Someone enlighten me.

Nothing revolutionary. It'll be a success because of all the blind Blizzard Starcraft followers. It's more of the same shit that was SC1, and that is a good thing. (For those who like that game.)

It's essentially a graphical update. (A very minor one at that.)

A very minor graphical upgrade... even on a shitty ass youtube video you should know better then that.

The graphics look like WC3 to me. Similar color palette, similar size relative to the camera zoom, just better effects.

Don't get me wrong. I'll get it for the story and have a blast. But it's not innovative in the least.

A minor graphical update? Why do you even bother posting. It's been 10 years in case you forgot.

As for innovation, that's in the details, always has been with Blizzard games; a simple video isn't going to showcase that. With that said, what innovations would you personally like to see and why?

You cite lack of evolution as a major frustration with the genre but I'm curious as to what other genres you feel have evolved significantly?

The graphics suck for a game coming out in 2008, and there is very little innovation, get over it Argrax.

Hopefully you'll be able to swarm massive amounts of units without much slowdown though. Who knows. It'll be fun for those who played regular SC, but they'll feel exactly the same as if they were playing that very same game.

Lame.

Who's trolling who? You may want to check the sequence of posts. Skycrasher letting everyone know how terrible a game Starcraft is, isn't anything new.

Funny how the majority of the time I ask simple, straight forward questions, I get met with attempted flames, diversionary responses or nothing at all. Heaven forbid a rational discussion takes place, too many people accustomed to making baseless statements without being called on it I suppose.

I'm sorry if I get annoyed with people complaining about things but offering nothing constructive in return. That's just complaining for the sake of complaining.

Lastly, please point out a couple instances where I disagreed with something somebody said and was flat out wrong.

Opinions don't always have to have a Pro and Con side to them.

I didn't say it was a shitty game. I said that people will buy it because it's Starcraft, just a more graphically updated version.

That's not in this thread. =) Further, what I said in this thread didn't imply that it sucked, merely that it was just a minor update. (And it is.)
