I've got more wrinkles than Dolly Parton...I'm 24 and she's 60. How many times has she had her face tightened? Think she's competing for Cher's record? <

My favorite part so far was the "trilogy" comment at the very beginning. Most of it has been pretty boring. <

Crash rightfully won best picture imo. The spin I've heard about Brokeback not winning because of controversy is bs. Crash was quite simply a better movie than the boring ass Brokeback Mountain.<
>
<
>
The Three 6 Mafia performance and win was a bit odd for the Oscars eh? Personally, I thought "In the Deep" from Crash was better, but hey, I'm clearly biased here.<

People have been hating on Jon Stewart's performance but I think he did just fine working the stuffy Oscar crowd.<

Judging by the Kodak Theatre audience's reception to Jon Stewart, he will find his place in Oscar hosting history alongside Chris Rock and David Letterman, both of whom were judged to be poor hosts, either for their cele

If they wanted to show the "full theatre experience" they should have had Mystery Science-eqsue heads in front of the film montages with one silhouette talking on his cell phone, another holding a screaming baby and the third constantly asking "Who's that guy?"

I only noticed Stewart make one politcal jab and that was asking that if everyone toppled the big Oscar statue whether it would
ing Democracy to Hollywood. I think 4 people laughed. <

<

I didn't think he did too bad of a job, and like him 1000x better than Billy Crystal, but that may be because I can't stand Billy Crystal. Oh well. <
>
<

Philip Seymour Hoffman is from my hometown, so that was good to see him win. He told our local news that he had an outstanding bet with his friends in actor school to bark his acceptance speech like a dog if any of them were ever to win an Oscar, but he didn't do it. <
>
<

I'm happy for Reese, and also for Crash. I figured Bareback Mounting would have won for sure and I was as shocked as the rest of the audience was when it lost. Good stuff.

Lemme see if I get this straight... there is a problem with actors and actresses spouting their opinions about politics on a show dedicated to letting the world know what the opinions of actors and actresses are???? "Nobody knows the age of the human race, but everybody agrees that it is old enough to know better."

While I don't really expect you to watch it, there is a documentary (Lily Tomlin narrates) called The Celluloid Closet that covers the history of gay stories in Hollywood. One of the segments talks about how writers got very adept at saying one thing while doing something else. They then cut to a scene, old cowboy movie, of two cowboys asking to hold each other's guns to see how they feel when they shoot. It couldn't be more homoerotic if you watched them fuck each other right there. It was really fucking hilarious and is, short of the scene from Ben Hur where something is going on that no one told Mr. Heston about, one of the best clips provided in the documentary.

How is Crash not exactly like an afterschool special? People with one set of views have their tune changed after encountering a Rube Goldberg-like coincidence and then get The Big Idea.<

Of the movies I saw, Crash was definitely in the upper echelon, but it definitely played out like an episode of Fresh Prince without the funny.<

Someone hit the nail on the head in a movie thread a ways back (might have been binkee) when they summed up crash as something like "black people are different than white people as a series of elaborate coincidences shows". Good movie? Definately. Best of the year? Not even close. <

It wouldn't be a movie thread if someone didn't suggest that. The difference is that Cameron Crowe is a better filmmaker than Paul Haggis.

Hollywood, California-In an unprecedented show of support for Brokeback Mountain, a website discussion board has spearheaded a campaign to collect donations from around the world to place ads in trade and national publications in support of the movie. In the first 48 hours, the group raised nearly $16,000 from over 400 contributors, and a team of volunteers designed a full page color ad to run in the March 10 Daily Variety.<
>
<
>
The ad campaign was started by members at the Ultimate Brokeback Forum as a positive way to deal with their emotions surrounding Brokeback Mountain’s loss for Best Picture at the Academy Awards. Instead of responding in anger, members wanted to find a way to thank the cast and crew of the film and to find a way to highlight Brokeback Mountain’s unprecedented string of Best Picture wins.<
>
<
>
The disparate group quickly decided to start an ad campaign, and soon word spread to other sites, and donations started to pour in from around the world. “I think most fans of the film were stunned by the Best Picture surprise, which raised the question of how and why the Academy could have been so out of sync with virtually every other organization that awarded Best Picture honors," site organizer Dave Cullen said in explaining why so many diverse people worldwide were donating to the campaign.<
>
<
>
According to industry watchers, no movie has generated this sort of fan response after a loss for Best Picture. Fans are happy their support for Brokeback Mountain is becoming part of industry lore. They hope that others looking for a way to honor Brokeback Mountain as the Best Picture of 2005 will contribute to the campaign, so more ads can run to help raise awareness that the film garnered nearly every Best Picture award bestowed for 2005. “Only one major organization did not name Brokeback Mountain as Best Picture, says campaign chair Peter Greyson.<

In part, this one snub for Best Picture was why those involved with the campaign wanted to send a clear message that Brokeback Mountain was em
aced by people around the world as well as highlight their gratitude for the film and remind people of the spirit of the film as expressed by Ang Lee: “[Jack and Ennis] taught all of us who made Brokeback Mountain so much about not just all the gay men and women whose love is denied by society, but just as important, the greatness of love itself.<

It's my personal view that "Brokeback Mountain" was lucky to get the /nod of being nominated for best picture/acting. The writing was awful, and the acting was 099. If not for the cowboys being gay, it wouldn't have even made people's radar, let alone the Oscars.<

"Rent" was a better movie over all then "Brokeback Mountain", and I was really REALLY disappointed with "Rent".

Yep, I have to agree. Crash was simply a better movie, IMO.<

Yeah and
okeback fans are the bitter ones, riiight. Most people admit crash is a pretty good movie, meanwhile all the crash fans can't bear to admit perhaps the winner of every other award this year might be worth seeing. I think it's a moot point anyway, since as writers like Jim Emerson are always pointing out the best picture nominees are rarely the best films of the year anyway. Personally
okeback was 9th on my list this year and crash an honorable mention, though I doubt most of you, and more importantly most of the academy voters, have seen even half of them. Sometimes I wonder if it's really such a different of taste rather than people just never seeing 90 percent of the best films every year. <

I feel that people cloud the issues sometimes.<

Y actor is in this preformance, it'll be great!<

X game is based on W, it'll be awesome!<

Z movie deals with P subject matter, it's the best ever!<

Let's use the "Star Wars" universe as an example. Tons of people love "Star Wars" and yet they make a MMORPG that is in many people's opinions is horrid. (many would debate who is at fault for this, but that's not the point I'm making here) Still though, their are some die hard fans who are so blinded by the name and subject matter that they'll ignore the shortcomings.<

"Star Wars" ep. 1-3, lots of actors many people think of as being "good" and yet, the movies were a huge let down to a lot of people. Yet, still many people view them as great due to the name and subject matter.<

As far as "Brokeback Mountain" is concerned though...<

I've enjoyed the actors in other films.<

I'm sure I'd even enjoy a "gay cowboy" film if I knew of one that was decently writen/acted/etc.<

I think what really surprises me the most is how much this movie and/or subject matter has polarised people.<
>
"OMG! I love Heath Ledger & Jake Gyllenhaal this is the best movie ever!"<
>
"A movie about being secretly homosexual in a society that doesn't accept you? Greatest film of the year!"<
>
"Fucking gay cowboy movie? That's the dumbest idea ever, and probably worst film I've ever heard about. No, I'm not ever going to see it, you'd have to be gay to want to."<
>
<
>
Just seems no one is willing to say<
>
"This, while being a interesting and provocative idea, was executed poorly when put to film."<

I've seen many movies, watched many shows, played many games, and their are always some you want desperately to like due to various reasons, but you shouldn't let that cloud your judgement. If you cling to your few things you want to like and ignore the rest, don't be surprised when people want to disagree with you. And yes, this goes for politics, and many other realms also.
