I admit I found it ridiculous that President Obama went to Tuscon. I also admit I did not feel that his speech was anywhere near as powerful as most of the media thought it was, in fact I found parts of it offensive during what was supposed to be a memorial. But now I really just don't understand...

Why has the actions of a clearly deranged young man worthy of discussion during the State of the Union? Do we really have nothing more important for our President to comment on?

Doesn't matter what he did or didn't do, someone would find fault with it. Not much we can do!

On one hand time is a premium. There are far more important things to be talking about. But it was a government official wounded and she's still all over the news so I can't really fault him for it. He's very media sensitive.

If he didn't go to Tuscon, he would have been blasted for being "uncaring" and "out of touch".

There is no way he can win with some people.

Sorry, Fribur, but you are wrong. I clearly stated absolutely achievable items that would cause Obama to 'win' in my eyes. To refresh your memory:

Quote:
First Year:
1~ Close Guantanamo.
2~ Begin a process to solve the Israel/Palestinian issue that includes as a primary concern security for both countries within defined and logical borders.
3~ 0 as in NO signing statements that in ANY way negate the purpose/intent of the legislation.
4~ Revision of the Patriot Act towards constitutionality.
5~ 5 Breaks with Pelosi/Reid on an issue of importance and brings other Democrats across the aisle to join Republicans.

By 2012:
1~ Overhaul of Social Security & Medicare to make them viable into the future.
2~ Devise a path towards fiscal responsibility and debt repayment that is achievable.
3~ Make Education a national responsibility rather than state/local with funding per student equal or close to equal at each school.
4~ Promote the creation of more manufacturing jobs domestically with an aim to become a net exporter.
5~ Complete the peace process between Israel & Palestine.
6~ Withdraw from Iraq in a way that does not allow Iran to gain any more prestige and allies in the region, maintains the Kurdish semi-autonomy, and bring sunnis fully into the Iraqi government.

Can't even have a debate with you. Your rage still burns from losing the 08 election, and it will be further spurned by the 12 election when Obama gets 4 more years.

Hardly surprising that he hasn't accomplished much of that, primarily due to red state/conservative Democrats in Congress who would have prevented anything from passing before Republican control anyway.

Agreed. If he goes, it makes no sense...if he doesn't go he doesn't care.

If he mentions the AZ shooting, it makes no sense (to those who don't understand why such a move would be made)...if he doesn't mention it, he is uncaring and out of touch with the nation.

Some people bitch just for the sake of bitching.

To my great surprise, the 'introduce & use your guests' part of the State of the Union speech was tastefully done. (yes this is a mea culpa)
