It's just being investigated as a hate crime and not terrorism. It's against brown people, so apparently it's not news.

Key words: "Could be". An incident where no one got hurt, nothing particularly spectacular happened that was unique in much sense(a bomb in a shoe, for example), and a remaining question as to whether this was some sort of inborn crime(as one of the guys in that thread on the site suggested, it kinda looked like he was wearing a Muslim taqiyah) or even a targeted crime against an individual or (more likely, given the pipe bomb)group of people that had no political or ideological motivations behind it.

Having trouble buying "teh ebil corporate-run double-standard media" on this one. They're always an easy target, though =)

They won't shut up about the underwear bomber and it's not because he hid a bomb in his underwear. He didn't kill anyone either.

It could still be a reason, but in that instance(as well as the shoe bomber) we're talking about bringing down a plane with at least a couple hundred people on it. Without going into the connotations associated with September 11th and terrorism in general(which in and of itself is a channel-surfing-stopper for many people), most people usually think of that as a pretty horrific way to die - especially if the plane doesn't simply blow up instantly. The idea that people are carrying explosives on a plane is pretty frightening to a lot of people.

Certainly a bomb exploding in a crowded mosque would have some near if not equal disastrous consequences in terms of loss of life and injury(though, from the looks of the FBI demonstration video, I'm not sure if this bomb was large enough to kill 200-ish people)... but from the sounds of it not only did the guy do this at the wrong time of day, he also planted it outside where it has little potential for serious risk particularly at that time. You don't need to be perfect or create a superexplosion to bring down a plane, thus why people are understandably more frightened about those things, and why you see more coverage of them.

If someone planted an ineffective bomb outside of a church it would still make the news. Your defense of this would make more sense if they had covered the story briefly then dropped it, this was never mentioned at all. Seriously go to CNN and search for florida mosque bomb. I would understand if they didn't want to spend a lot of time on it, no mention at all on any major news outlet seems hinky.

I think this has deep roots to Nazi Germany and Hitler. The comparisons are obvious.

It's funny how the news will play up something that probably half the middle-school boy population has made.

Doubtful that it'd make the news just because it was a church. While there are double standards present with most major media outlets, this conspiracy theory just doesn't quite add up. The problem is they simply can't report everything under the sun, else you'd get a front page with about 20,000 links updated by the second and about 10 channels from the same network. This is one of those stories that falls under the radar precisely for the reasons I mentioned. The question for media is, "why would you report this over a story people are actually increasing our ratings to see?".

I'd just as soon fault the populace for dumb coverage, but in this particular instance, I can see why they'd be more concerned with a bomb in a plane than a bomb outside a mosque/church/synagogue at an hour when no one will get hurt in an area where no one will get hurt.

The lack of sophistication of the bomb doesn't have much to do with anything. Bomb-makers are often high ranking members of terrorist organizations. I'm guessing that this is because it is a rare skill set. It's not surprising that someone wouldn't know how to make a good bomb even though the information is out there for anyone that cares to look.

The important thing is the intent of whomever planted the bomb. Were they just trying to scare people or were they trying to kill people? Are they going to try again? If this story getting some national media attention led to the arrest of the idiot that planted the bomb and prevented him from planting another one then would it be important? Do we really have to wait for them to succeed before we care more about catching them then the other 100's of inane stories that flood the news everyday?

Times Square bomb wasn't very sophisticated either. Terrorist organizations actually went out of their way to deny training him.
