I took that to mean that he is asserting Congress' right to repeal the law and protesting against a possible unilateral move to do so without going through Congress. A view which I disagree with, since Obama has the power an established precedent to simply issue an executive order and *clearly* should do so, sooner rather than later. His view seems to be shared by Obama himself since Obama hasn't issued that executive order and seems to be waiting on Congress to repeal it.

I still find McCain's original statement in 2006 to be idiotic(even though he obviously flip flops all over the place anyway to kowtow to the conservatives when he's seen as too liberal). Yes, let's wait until idiots stop getting their panties in a wad over a guy getting a hard-on in the shower room. Thank God for wiser men back during the civil rights era, or we'd still be waiting for people to get over showering with black men.

Remember that this is the guy who voted against civil union benefits for gay couples in Arizona. Classic McCain.

This is a silly little thing, but right now there is a junior in my small high school in a small conservative town that is openly gay. Our high school currently only allows couples (as in, a man and a woman) buy tickets for prom. I'm interested to see what happens when he tries to buy tickets for himself and his boyfriend next year. We've talked about it a little and I've already agreed to stand by him if it is an issue, although I imagine I'll lose a few kids from my band program as a result.

I'm personally trying to figure out if his wife and daughter are simply trying to make him look better somehow through association or if they really do disagree with him on the topic. It is kind of sad I've become so cynical of politicians at this point that I find it easier to believe it is a political stunt to humanize the McCains than I do that they might actually really believe it. Thanks Cheney family. :p

Good for you Fribur, but I'm not surprised. Also your school (if it is a public school) legally has to allow him to attend with his date if he so wishes. They can't prevent it. Well...they CAN but they can be sued over it. Various gay groups have legal info packets now that schools can also access, explaining what the law is.
