Many are pointing to this.
Quote:
Take this into consideration. If we look at American history, between 1942 and 1947, the data that was collected by the census bureau was handed over to the FBI and other organizations, at the request of President Roosevelt, and that’s how the Japanese were rounded up and put into the internment camps. I’m not saying that’s what the Administration is planning to do. But I am saying that private, personal information that was given to the census bureau in the 1940s was used against Americans to round them up and put the Japanese in internment camps.

I fear something like this is only the tip of the iceberg. I mean people are armed at town hall meetings for fuck's sake.

It is difficult to make the argument that the US Government "wouldn't do that" when they have already misconstrued the constitution to the detriment of the citizens. That gives all of the militia types and right-wing nutjob groups some very powerful ammunition to use in convincing the stupid and easily led into believing just about anything. Someone was eventually going to do something like this; just as whatsisname's actions in burning the abortion clinics was predictable. Hateful and inflammatory rhetoric breeds hateful actions by inflamed individuals. My god! Did you not see those people who were IN TEARS thinking about their 'precious' children watching a speech by the President? I mean, come on. People are dumb and easily can be pushed to do anything.

Americans aren't stupid.

That said, there are stupid people in America. There's a difference.

I would venture to disagree with you. As a group, Americans are generally stupid, and are able to be convinced of almost anything.

As individuals, Americans are less so.

As a whole we've pretty much proven that we are.

Perhaps it seems moreso because we try so hard to claim we're enlightened and whatnot. But in the end - as a whole - we still engage in terribly stupid and ignorant behavior with regards to each other and society.

Hate, intolerance, discrimination all still spread like wildfire in our nation, as if we've learned nothing. Not just on personal levels, look at how people vote on legislation regarding rights based on sexual orientation.

I talk to people almost every day that manage to completely fail at the simplest tests of logic when presented with the topic of politics or social matters. People claiming Obama wants to burn the Constitution or that he only wanted to speak to schools to recruit for his own brand of "Hitler Youth".

People still violently balking at the idea of helping other members of their nation when it means giving something. People still convinced that Obama wants to go around killing the young, sick and elderly.

The root of it all? The root of what causes people that should otherwise be intelligent, capable humans to somehow fail at simple things like, "Are blacks bad because they're black?" or "Is the government trying to murder my dad?" or "Is Obama really trying to get children to fight a war for him?" What is it?

Simple intellectual laziness. That's all. It's so easy to sit there and be fed hate, to be fed ignorance. To be fed whatever the higher ups in their chosen political team tell them, no matter how logically unreasonable it really seems.

Racists? You're all ignorant, intellectually lazy fucks for thinking people of a different race are bad. Same for gay-haters, people who think Obama is a terrorist double-agent and people who listen to...well...anything that Sarah Palin says. =)

Stop and think a little, America.

That is assuming they live in a connected part of society. I'd wager it was probably motivated by something more along the lines of Ruby Ridge.

In NJ recently, 18% of self-identified conservatives affirmatively said that Obama is the anti-Christ, with 17% not sure.

http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/pdf/ ... NJ_916.pdf

I think that's a much larger percentage of the population than would be accounted for by a few isolated communes like Ruby Ridge. The percentage of the population that has checked out of reality is a lot more systemic than I think many people realize.

That data was reduced in a very odd way, unless the groups were exactly equal you can't divide by the number of groups. The anti-Christ statistic has some weird implications if you look at the segment on who folks voted for in the election. ;) The "not sure's" were also within the statistical error of the moderates (14%).

Anyway how trustworthy can farcical survey questions like that be? It's like asking high school students about drug use and promiscuity.

Whoops got cut off. By Ruby Ridge I was referring to 'off the grid' people who base their distrust of the feds on the killings there. Not necessarily militias but folks who decide to live apart for a leg up when society collapses. Some of them were featured in this month's Popular Mechanics.

I'd reply to that with a comment about Bush voters, but that'd be beneath me.

Aw crap, I just did it anyway, didn't I?

Yeah, November 4 2004 pretty much beats the Great Obama Mistake.

The potential market for Vice President Palin is a better one. And I find Obama to be charismatic, but ineffective.

Odds are this guy was mistaken for an agent of another federal agency. The DEA runs around Eastern Kentucky looking for marijuana fields.
