Clown shoes banned
Weird World News
A Russian clown has been banned from wearing huge shoes by health and safety officers in the UK.

Valerik Kashkin, who performs in the Moscow State Circus, fell from a wire suspended 10ft in the air, breaking the metatarsal in his foot and prompting the ban on his UK size 18 shoes by safety officials in Liverpool, North England.

He said: ""I feel fine, and think I could do it in the shoes - the impact might be lost on the audience now."

General manager for the circus, Paul Archer, agreed, joking: "It will definitely detract from the visual aspect of the performance. But we live in a litigation world, and I guess we just have to follow through these procedures. It's a real balancing act."

Too bad it isn't litigation in this case - regulation or legislation more likely.

I'd just call it idiocy. Keep in mind the guy is not a lawyer, but a person who can identify stupidity when he sees it.

I think the point is that such action is taken because when it is not...there have been lawsuits and outcries. It's probably designed to protect the worker from unsafe exploitation. /shrug But IDK just a guess.

Obviously there's some serious risks that are taken by performers, I wonder if they're all regulated now. Or if some of those risks are merely presumptive risks. Like...does a high wire person HAVE to perform with a net? Or a safety harness?

And what's worse...will that impact the show for the spectators? Are we there to see some amazing things...or is the risk that someone could die part of what we're paying to see? Ugh, I hope not. But it's commonly said about car racing, that a lot of people aren't there to watch the cars, but to watch a potential crash. (No idea how true that is, but we seem to enjoy watching the replays over and over and over...)
