Beaarne, I don't get your point here at all. It's ok to be racist towards Republicans?

Back on topic (nice derail, Bearne)

Rasmussen reports massive declining support for the Stimulus.

http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_ ... alls_to_37

Quote:
The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that 37% favor the legislation, 43% are opposed, and 20% are not sure.

Two weeks ago, 45% supported the plan. Last week, 42% supported it.

Opposition has grown from 34% two weeks ago to 39% last week and 43% today.

It's pretty sad, actually Kula.

Dems have the votes, public support and a crisis to tie it all together. It's a recipe to getting something powerful done. What a complete mess they've made of it.

Nah, Kula, that wasn't designed to raise hackles. Now if I had written "the new and improved White Southerners, Judeo-Christian Theocrats, and Rich People Party," *that* would be intentionally provocative! hee. :D

In seriousness, though, it is interesting that it was obvious who I meant. There's at least a kernal of truth in there.

No, there's more than a bushel of stereotyping that, if directed in almost any other direction, YOU would be jumping all over.

Joxur, yes it is sad. I really don't get how the Democrats in DC don't seem to realize that they are under a microscope because they can do whatever they want...

Nah, Kula.

Everything I write between Jan 5 and April 30, 2009 needs to be seen through the following lens:

I'm a CPA. It is busy season. I'm on mandatory 55-hour work weeks for four months. These boards and WoW are how I blow off steam. And I can't play WoW at work.

The mistakes keep piling up.

President Obama to water down 'Buy American' plan after EU trade war threat
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/w ... 655115.ece

Quote:
The European Union warned the US yesterday against plunging the world into depression by adopting a planned “Buy American” policy, intensifying fears of a trade war.

The EU threatened to retaliate if the US Congress went ahead with sweeping measures in its $800 billion (£554 billion) stimulus plan to restrict spending to American goods and services.

Is it stereotyping to follow the voting and enrollment patterns and state them in plainly, even if done in a politically incorrect way?

The Southern Strategy is real and well-documented. Traditional business support for the Republican Party is real and well-documented. It's called "The Relgious Right" for a reason. The party breakdowns in the Senate and House of Representatives are real and well-documented.

Rasumussen released a survey earlier in the week showing that a plurality of self-identified Republicans believe that the path of McCain is a dead end, and that the path of Palin is the future of the Party and that the Party isn't conservative enough.

I grew up in a Republican household (the Northern New England strongly libertarian kind). My mom and I have had a lot of talks about how uncomfortable she is with the direction the Party's gone and there's generally a strain of sadness in those conversations. She identifies with people like Jim Jeffords and Olympia Snowe (even though she's strongly pro-life).

I don't want the GOP to be a regional party, at best. In a non-parliamentary republic that coaleses around two parties, a strong opposition is required to maintain systemic checks and balances. But, seriously, this is what the GOP Powers-that-Be have wrought. And by all accounts, they still think they're headed down the right path. And that isn't good for the health of the Republic.

It is. Especially when the person relying on those stereotypes would himself be offended if the same trends were looked at in Democratic voting patterns.

The democratic party has its share of black eyes, don't they?

I point to the passage of prop 8 largely due to overwhelming support by african american democrats as one pretty large example of that.

That's a canard that's been largely disproven, based on a single exit poll. Later data has shown it to be around a 55-45 split for Prop 8, similiar to the Hispanic breakdown, and lower than most heavily religiious demographics.

Luckily, it has revealed the inadequacies of the No On 8 Campaign in particular, and HRC strategists in general, towards minority outreach, and towards advocacy overall. So there are lots of opportunities for dialogue. Prop 8 also shaved off about 8 percentage points from a similiar amendment in the 1990s ( 52 - 48 vs 60 - 40, iirc), which is a pretty remarkable shift in a pretty short period of time. Especially considering that a majority of Americans didn't poll as being in support of interracial marraige until the early 1990s, about 25 years after Virginia v Loving.

I'd have to bill you about $150/hr to do the research.

You forgot inner city, baby-killing, tax & spend, hollywood, elitist, tree-hugging, business-hating, socialists who don't believe in defense or national sovereignty.

On the other side you forgot fiscally conservative, personal responsibility oriented, constitutionalists who believe in state's rights.

Stereotypes are funny things. But the one thing that all stereotypes share is that they simply don't move any conversation forward because they offend.

Insert Democrat for Republican and I the same conversations with my Dad in the 80's.

Obama says "catastrophe" coming if we don't act on stimulus.

This is an awful lot like Bush warning of nuclear doom if we don't act on his bills "right damn now". More fear mongering.

Maybe we could forum a department of economic security, and any time we need to pass some new spending bill, just have the secretary ratchet up the warning level.

It seems to me that the tax cut philosophy has already been tested and has failed miserably.
