I love the terms 'counterfeit' and 'fraudulent' in the opinion pieces. Considering the funds are -from- the guarantor, they cannot be either counterfeit or fraudulent. Backed on nothing but promises? Sure. But we've not had a gold-backed economy for quite some time.

Yeah, the 'counterfeit' and 'fraudulent' stuff made me laugh...but I'm still of the opinion that Scrooge McDuck was trying to teach a valuable lesson about inflation there at the end. Scarier then that is I actually remember this episode from when I was a kid.

My dad collects Scrooge McDuck comics, and a lot of the series was based on the old comics. I'd have to go through the list of published comics to be sure...but I'm PRETTY sure that episode was based on one of the old serial comics (probably came out during/after WII...though it might have been before).

What they're talking about in that episode is VERY specific to what happened in pre-war Germany in the 1930s due to inflation.

It seems ridiculous today...but it actually happened.
