Polls abound everywhere are calling for an Obama win. He is leading in almost every single battleground state and will nab PA, FL, and OH. Watch it!

As an ardent Obama supporter I am overjoyed, but there is a lot to be done. I have to vote tomorrow. I was going to vote early but lines around the valley were from 2 to 3 even 5 hour waits. It's just insane!

I predict an Obama landslide, as I have all along:

Popular Vote:
Obama - 52%
McCain - 48%

Electoral College:
Obama - 340
McCain - 198

Vote baby, vote!

I lol'd at the sig. Funny stuff.

I'm going with the bandwagon and predicting a big win for Obama. 300 or so electoral votes.

Also, I've been working on another look back at the Lanys Punditocracy for the 2008 elections. Going to post it either tomorrow night or Wednesday. If any of you have quotes that you absolutely want included please pm the quote and the link to me and I promise to include it. Maybe you were dead on about something and want credit, or maybe you want someone included for being dead wrong.

Currently 7 pages long in word and going, gonna be a long one. Hopefully you will find it interesting as a kind of gauge of how our opinions progressed over the past 2 years. I've found it interesting looking through it.

Why are people arguing that Obama may lose PA because Clinton won it during the primaries? The democratic vote was split between two democrats, not a democrat and a republican. I don't get it. Democrats are likely to vote democratic, and the vitriol that was around hasn't lingered this far. He's down by like 12 points. Is he really that out of touch with reality?

PS: McCain keeps talking about how the pundits have written him off and how he's "come back" but he hasn't won a Presidential race... so how exactly has he come back, and from where?

He's going to lose.

Do you notice how Obama doesn't have the "We're going to WIN tomorrow!" tactics going on? It's like all McCain can talk about. What states he'll win, how he'll win the Presidency, etc -- but he hasn't, and won't.

Can't wait to hear him say tomorrow:

"I just called Senator Obama to congratulate him on his election to the Presidency of the United States of America. It was a hard fought battle. Now, I retire."

I was going to shoot somewhere closer around 55/45 like Gallup has predicted but I decided to go against it. Besides, considering the 2000 and 2004 elections, that'd be a landslide victory for Democrats. :P

I mean that but I think that the PV may be a landslide too I just don't want to be overzealous about it. I definitely think it's likely we'll see a huge EC landslide though.

Bush vs Dukakis was a landslide. That was a tough result for the Dukakis side.

Well, if you're that dead-set against socialism, I certainly hope that you take a strong principled stand and never use a non-toll interstate highway or a county hospital. Or any take any tax credits or non-standard deductions. And certainly you don't want to ever visit a public park or watch your city's 4th of July fireworks display or take out Stafford loans to attend a state university. I'm sure you'll also be forgoing your Social Security benefits, and refraining from using a city ambulance or calling the local fire department. And you'll probably need to stop buying food from the local grocery store, since that probably got shipped via some combination of a city or state owned airport or seaport or train depot and then driven along streets owned and maintained by your city's DPW. Aw, man, and you'll need to stop using the internet, too.

Fricking socialists!

Don't forget, you'll need to homeschool your children using books you make yourself, as public schools and private schools both benefit from state-funded initiatives, and most publishers of educational materials receive federal assistance.

And Obama sweeps them and takes one of the EV's in Nebraska.

A year ago, who seriously thought that a "safe bet" version of an EC map would have Virginia, Colorado, and Nevada solidly in a Democratic column, and Montana, North Dakota, and Missouri as toss ups? I sure as hell didn't.

I played with the CNN map and came up with
326 Obama
212 McCain

51% Obama
48% McCain
1% Green, Libertarian, etc..

I gave OH and NC to Obama, and the rest of the tossups to McCain.

I hope McCain and his walking cliche of a sidekick get the spanking they deserve, but after wondering how anyone could vote for Bush in '04 I'm a bit cynnical, and think its going to be closer than a lot think it will be. I hope I'm wrong though.

This is the best McCain can do:

We will know if Obama pulls this out when the results of Pennsylvania and Ohio are done.

I think the "We will bankrupt them" in regards to the coal industry will push those two states a lot closer than they already are.

My family is from North Carolina and I don't see it going Obama.

Florida is a toss up
I think the popular vote will be something like 48-46

Yeah, no way McCain runs the gamut like that. Poor guy. He must feel like an absolute failure. Bush is laughing though cuz he voted for Obama.

I too, have family in North Carolina, ardent Obama supporters as well. I think he's got a good shot but it's too close to call. He definitely takes PA though. How McCain thinks he can win there is beyond me.

Senator Voinovich of Ohio talks about how Senator McCain's proposal "will put coal out of business."

http://www.c-spanarchives.org/congress/ ... id=7351631

Barely 90 minutes later, Senator McCain says:

Quote:
Is this Kyoto that Senator Lieberman and I are proposing? No. Sometimes I wish that it were, but it is not. It is far less stringent in its requirements to address the issue of greenhouse gas emissions. It is something that we believe is not only affordable but doable.

Does it involve some sacrifice on the part of the American people? Yes. I have to tell you, every time I talk to young Americans and say, Are you willing to make some sacrifice to prevent the occurrences that we see are happening now, these young Americans are more than willing to do so.

When we talk about jobs, these Draconian estimates of lost jobs that they have hired some think tank to come up with...

http://www.c-spanarchives.org/congress/ ... id=7351694

And, not surprisingly, Obama's been misquoted. Here's his full statement:

Quote:
That will create a market in which whatever technologies are out there that are being presented, whatever power plants are being built, they would have to meet the rigors of that market and the ratcheted-down caps that are imposed every year. So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can. It’s just that it will bankrupt them because they’re going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that’s being emitted. That will also generate billions of dollars that we can invest in solar, wind, biodiesel, and other alternative energy approaches.

http://wonkroom.thinkprogress.org/2008/ ... al-plants/

Despite what Fox and Drudge have misstated, the interview has been sitting on the SF Chronicle's website, available to anyone and everyone, since January:

Obama for the win is obviously (still) my prediction.

For my prediction I'm giving McCain Ohio, Indiana, Florida, Virginia, NC, and Missouri. Those are both very close and McCain is leading in a couple of them. Obama maintains Pennsylvania.

Final tally: Obama 278, McCain 260.

It may well come down to Colorado and Nevada. Real nailbiter if it comes down to those two states I bet.

Gotta love that electoral map CNN has up. I think the biggest possibility for a tie(269-269) is if McCain somehow wins Colorado. Obama takes NM, Nevada, and Penn. McCain with the usual suspects: Ohio, Virginia, Missouri, NC, as well as Florida. All of those could well go to either McCain or Obama. It's unlikely that Obama will lose all of those... but still. The real challenge to get the tie would be that McCain somehow miraculously pulls off Colorado, which has a 9-10 point lead for Obama atm.

Got my vote in this morning. I've been voting at this polling place for 3.5 years and for the first time I actually had to wait in line. Can't wait to read/hear about turnout numbers, exciting stuff!

Races I'm watching today.

Coleman vs Franken in Minnesota. Franken's show was the only one I listened to on Air America and I very much enjoyed it. Hoping he can pull out the win up there.

Betts vs Tiahrt here in Kansas. Betts Jr. will likely get trounced, but I've done some volunteering for the campaign and I like the guy. Don't like Tiahrt at all.

Prop 8 in California. Please, please, please vote that bad boy down.

Bachmann vs Tinklenberg in Minnesota. Bachmann made this race famous after going on Hardball and calling Obama un-American and declaring Democrats in Congress should be investigated for un-American activities.

Tevis vs Siegfeid for Kansas House. Tevis got this race some attention by raising lots of money online as a result of a funnywebcomic he put up.

What races are ya'll watching today?

Here's hoping Prop 8's sister legislation in Florida gets voted down as well. I'm considering collecting up all the "Yes on 2" signs littering my city's public property and having a bonfire.

I don't know what will happen with it. On the way home from work, the "Yes on 8" people were out in force all last week. I only saw about 4 "No on 8" people out. But I can't really blame them. There has been a lot of tension between the two groups.

Same here, San Diego, especially the Chula Vista area, is fairly conservative, and the bigots today decided to litter public property with their signs more than in the past few weeks. On my way to school mostly every corner had a YES on 8 sign. As well as most dividers.

On my way to voting, I went to the wrong school, and that neighborhood was PACKED with signs too. Not a single NO on 8 one either. Heh. We'll see what happens. =)

Well, being from Minnesota these 2 races matter to me. I really dislike Frankin though mainly because of his politics and believe it or not Coleman destroyed him in the debates. I'd prefer Coleman or Barkley. People forget the Independent candidate (Barkley) is polling about 17-20 percent and is actually a very good choice. The Bachmann vs Tinklenberg race is more interesting since both of them are idiots for different reasons. She just can't seem to string together a sensible statement and he has a history of things like no bid contracts. I don't vote in this race thank goodness because I'd probably just go third party.
