Reverand Wright strikes me as a person who is upset with the current injustices of our society, and meets those injustices in rather extreme ways. I don't buy all the pundits chatter about him being a "hate-filled" man. He's upset as any person could be after no doubt witnessing injustice on the streets of Chicago. That kind of environment can lead people to extremes, it's hard for me to blame him for where he grew up(in part). He's not excused in totality, of course, from his words but it's easy to see why he holds such views.

I just have trouble painting the guy as a mean, hateful man as the extreme right has. I think also as with many people, his politics can be somewhat extreme but he may easily treat anyone he meets with the utmost respect. He strikes me as a guy who would welcome you into any setting, regardless of who you are. He has his biases, but he's not mean-spirited.

It always struck me as ironic that the mean, hateful extreme right could call anyone mean and hateful.

They're not, by and large, hateful or mean either IMO. Call me naive, but I'd argue that 0.5 percent or less of the population is a genuine piece of shit, with hate in their hearts. People find all sorts of ways to justify their actions, and more often than not they believe they're the real heroes and their reasoning is genuine.

The most conservative of conservatives were simply born in barns. There's indoctrination on the liberal side too I'll readily admit, though I personally believe it requires more thoughtfulness to grasp onto.

You have more faith in humanity than I do.

I'd put it at about 30%

Yup, 30-37% ... or - evangelical "value voter" block.

I wish they would all just leave.

McCain lost because people are stupid and uneducated, They only believe what they hear.
I am so upset that people in NY would vote for a man who has terriost realitives and a background full of radicals, Have they forgotten 911 already?

I'm loving the irony of that first sentence followed by the second, all from the same person.

It will be interesting to see if the "Hey, you may not have liked him, but shut up and support your president" crowd can practice what they preach.

The answer should be obvious given the last five presidential elections.
