As an undecided, I'd like a thread where it's easy to find answers on where each canidate stands for certain things. I'm sure there will be bias here, but that will have to be taken into account.

My first question, I just read that Obama plans to end the tax credit(no tax paid for profit on main residence) for couples selling a home, which is right now 500k. I haven't heard this anywhere else though, and this would be a very big deal, so I'd like to know if it's true. Anyone know?

I haven't heard anything about that one way or the other. That would really go against his stated goals of reducing the tax burden on the middle class, if it is true.

I'm kind of inclined to think that it isn't, if only because that would make a really excellent talking point for the McCain folks, and he'd probably get pressured to drop it. But I don't have anything concrete one way or the other.

I'm looking at an economist's report comparing Obama & McCain's economic policies and don't see anything about that. It's the first time I've heard that claim.

The closest info I could find was Obama's intention to let the 'marriage penalty' tax breaks expire and as I recall that included a doubling of the House sale exemption ( $250,000 per person rather than $250,000 per tax file ).

That info was also found on a decidedly biased blog so confirmation of its accuracy would be nice.

My information was also from a pro-McCain source, so I wanted a neutral souce to confirm or deny it.

If I can get a concise answer on this, I'll let you know.

If this souce can be trusted, it appears to be a false claim. Obama does not support changing the taxation of primary residence sales. As a homeowner planning to sell and buy a new home soon, I really hope this is accurate.

Factcheck.org is a pretty reliable, non-partisan source.

This article appears to be neutral. Covers both candidates positions on 22 issues.

That's pretty sad.

It is sad, but thankfully the bigots always eventually lose in this country, and they're losing this one too. Just a matter of time.

Some things change, some things remain the same no matter what.

An interesting link I came across one day from TIME magazine in 1969. Don't bother if you aren't really interested in the whole "gay history" thing. :p
