I've read a lot of folks got it after that most recent firmware update, or just after getting the latest MW2 Map pack.

Ps3 seems really bad at their own firmware. Mine was bricked from firmware a year or two ago.

They could always used the MS XBox way of fixing the Red Ring of Death.

Just disable the red LED used to display it....

Though if you play any online content most if not all of the time it won't even let you play said game until you've done a system update.

Well, I eventually do. I just wait two weeks to make sure I don't see "firmware update bricked my console" or anything like that.
