So the shittiest part about the GTA games aside from the camera control and driving controls was that you couldn't be a good guy if it was outside the structure of the law. Like you see a dude who's robbing another dude and you want to be like "hey, that shit isn't cool, let me take some action." But you would just end up punching him a couple of times until he ran away because you don't want to spend a couple of minutes running from the cops.

How do you fix it? Set the game in a world where vigilante justice is not only acceptable, it's encouraged! That is Red Dead Redemption. See some dudes robbing a stage? Shoot the fuckers.

It's a lot more fun than GTA4 was out of the box.

Only played about an hour and a half so far but it's awesome. There's even a gears of war crouch behind objects control to hide from bullets in gunfights.

This game will sell a lot of copies.

Is this fun single player, or is it only MMO style play? I am confused by the online review I read that made it sound like you could only play it in a persistant world MMO style.

It's both. There is both single player story ala GTA as well as a multiplayer free roam where you can join up and go do a bunch of random things with random people, or form a posse and ride around with bros and take over gang hideouts and hunt. Think of it like a huge game lobby. You gain exp in the different multiplayer modes as well, unlocking various things. Modern Warfare meets cowboys and indians.

The 360 version has some pretty shitty bugs at the moment like random disconnects/crashes and NPC/PC characters not showing up properly. Hopfully they fix it up because multiplayer is insanely fun. It's not game of the year like everyone is touting it to be but it's everything you expect from Rockstar's sandbox games.

The Xbox 360 version looks a little more detailed to me. But, they are pretty close tho

Playing Hold'em is an easy way to build up that bankroll.

Catching a bounty alive isn't as hard as I thought it would be, just kill everyone around the guy, hide behind a rock until you are healed, then walk up and lasso him. Gives you double the $$ reward as killing him would give, which adds up really fast.

Once you get one of the sniper rifles, shoot the horses, shoot the lackies, shoot the target in the leg, hogtie target, loot bodies/skin horses, return target to town.

Probably one of my favorite parts of the game next to playin Hold'em

Will killing the horses give you any bad rep? I'm playing as mostly a good guy.

No. Kill all the horses you want. You don't even need to leg shoot the guy. Half the time I just charge him and lasso him. If you don't shoot the horses you just have to chase him a little. Honor is fairly easy to raise/lower. The fame takes time. So you can switch good/bad without a lot of trouble, I wouldn't stress over it.

I like liar's dice, easy way to make alot of cash in Thieves landing when the buy-in is $200. Sadly it changed to $25 for me now, not nearly as profitable.

The high end poker game in Blackwater is also quite profitable. Love this game.

If you kill a horse with a saddle on it, you may lose some honor. Or maybe it's just if you kill your horse.

Either way, you get bounty if you kill a regular person's horse. Wild horses can get shot the hell up all the live-long day.

The music in this game is incredible. Perfect.

In particular, when I crossed into Mexico for the first time, a really great song came on that immersed me into the game in a way that very few games do.

I was a little disappointed with the multiplayer modes this game has to offer. Free Roam is pretty damned cool I'll admit, but other than the standoffs, the gameplay felt a little slow/unrewarding. Obviously you can't expect submachinegun/Rocketlauncher-type gunfights in a western, but it still felt dated/choppy as an FPS. Another thing is half the time people just pick one spot to hide behind, wait for stealthmode to activate, and wait there forever. Duck and cover system makes for a bit of a waiting game, particularly in this instance and especially with autoaim.

Post subject:  Re: Red Dead Redemption

Get to level 15 and don't worry about auto aim. Also they disappear from radar because they go into crouch and stop firing. Another protip is don't run out into the open.

Post subject:  Re: Red Dead Redemption

What happens at level 15 and autoaim? =x

Also my understanding was that all of the above add to stealth: Lack of firing, crouching, and line of sight.

Movement also seems really jumpy/laggy as does collision detection, maybe it's just the PS3 version?
