Most people are probably aware of this service, but I just finally set it up the other night and was pretty impressed.

If you've got xbox gold and a netflix account, you can set up netflix on the xbox to be able to browse and stream movies. I checked two different flicks yesterday and the quality and stream was really nice. No lag, no distortion. It is like having a video store in your own home. I do wish they'd let you search for movies rather than having the preset list to scroll through, but you can add stuff to your "instant queue" via the website and then have it available on the xbox itself.

Between that and the twonkymedia share I set up on my pc, I've got a lot of content I can now stream through the xbox.

I highly suggest checking it out if you haven't already.

Even better, stream through a Windows Home Server for great victory. I love the Netflix/Live service.

Had this since they started doing it and I love it. We kind of ran out of a lot of the good movies they had on the instant watch service (at least that we wanted to watch) so we mostly use it for our daughters cartoons and what not now plus whatever they add here and there.

In all the time I have been using it, its only had trouble working once, and netflix immediately sent me an email and said they are sorry, they also credited our bill like $2 or something that month. Very awesome customer service IMO

I'd be much happier w/ Netflix streaming if it didn't require a Live Gold account. I'm already paying for Netflix. Why should I have to pay for Live Gold, too, when there are plenty of free options for streaming?

That's more Microsoft's doing than Netflix. Netflix can be streamed to a number of other set-top boxes that don't require an additional subscription fee.

In all fairness, you're using their platform for convenience. Just be glad it's not an additional cost above and beyond Live gold.

For people that have dumped hundreds of dollars into MMOs over the years some of you are cheapskates.

The PSNetwork is catching up fast, and as soon as I figure out how to turn off the annoying noise it makes every time I move around the menu, it wins.

I bought a program for $20 a whole ago called PlayOn... since then, streaming NetFlix, Hulu and many network programs to my PS3 has been free.

playon is GREAT. It's slowly but surely overtaking PS3 Media Server as my app of choice on the windows home server.

I'll have to check it out. I was using the demo of twonky for the last 2 weeks. It works, but nothing to write home about.

Eh. I went back to Twonky as there was a ton of archived media I had that PlayOn didn't recognize as "Valid format" (I wondered about that when I saw that it was going to utilize IE and .net). Twonky has its issues, but it recognizes pretty much everything I've got on my media archive. Quicktime is pretty much the only thing it doesn't do.

Are all the above streaming things just for Xbox and PS3?

I just arrived in the 21st century and got an HD TV so I am a bit behind.

If I had netflix streaming to my PC can I show that on the TV? If so would the picture be ok?

TV has a PC connection but I dont have a cable yet so not sure how it works.

I have a spare laptop that could possibly be used to do stuff with TV but really not up on stuff, could it work like a DVR?

More info or a pointer to someplace with good info would be greatly appreciated.

I do have an Xbox 360 but never got gold, nor go online with it much.
