I had to make a post regarding this game mainly because I had never played a NBA game (i'm not counting NBA Jam, Hangtime, etc.) outside of the Live Series. It's been year after year I have been buying NCAA Football 'XX and NBA Live 'XX, and last night I bought NBA 2K9 since a friend recommended it to me. I have been venting for a couple of years now about NBA Live's attempt to add either more realism or arcade aspects to the game, taking it further and further from it's core system.
NBA 2K9 has great realism, controls are different but good, and it has a pretty detailed season mode. There are some aspects I find lacking but if you are looking for a game that still respects getting the best shot at the top of your jump, this is it. If you are Live person, making moves takes some getting use to but, I do like how they include everything from spin moves to drop steps. I'm impressed thus far and I can't believe that this series has so many top notch sponsors, such as Gatorade, ESPN, etc.
I definitely recommend this game in comparioson to Live 08 and 09.
