Finally got my Red Ring today.

I am fixing it myself, damn Microsoft and their non-heat resistant materials.

Why are you fixing it yourself?

You have at least one or two more years of protection specifically for the RROD, and at this point they're shipping NEW units rather than refurbing.

I could be wrong here but I think the warranty is only extended 3 years and if he bought it when they first came out, November 22, 2005, his RROD warranty is over. He can however try and BS them and say he doesn't know when he bought it or they might not even ask or care.

If your console isn't modded I would still try to send it in, if they still tell you no then you can try and google and research a method called XClamp replacement which is usually the problem.

it's three years packed on top of the standard warranty (one year?) for RROD.

I hear the newer units still have heat issues, but not as bad. Good Luck on your next system. Next gen, maybe MS won't make the same mistakes with their hardware design etc. The first Xbox was solid like a rock!

Nothing on the 360 I can't do on the PC anyways.

Time to list 20 things you can do on a 360 that you can't do on a PC. I'll start:

1. Play Gears 2.

It'll eventually be released on the PC.

reticule moves too slow to be any good on pc, at least that's how it seems to me, which would probably be the same problem with halo games on pc

Glad that worked out for you, glad it wasn't the DVD Drive becoming magnetized now that one is a PITA.

fixyourownxbox.com proved to be a valuable site. They have kits to aid in repairing your xbox, videos showing how to do so and a parts section where you can get a lot of stock 360 parts.
