Is there anything you can buy or anything you can do to help prevent PSP theft?

I am giving one as a christmas present to a 12 year old, and I want to protect it as much as possible.

It is a new 3000 no can't use any homebrew apps.

any ideas?

With a PSP, if it's stolen, and they can't get it to work, it's not like they're going to give it back. I'd say this may be a tad overzealous.

If you want the psychological warfare advantage, print up some stickers that say "This system protected by anti-theft technology" and slap 'em on the back.

I was thinking something more along these lines:

Useless on any system with a firewall. If it's theft prevention you want, put a sticker on it. If it's recovery you want, just get an insurance policy on it. =P

Will the agent be blocked by firewalls?

With the latest release of the GadgetTrak agent files, most firewalls are no longer an issue. Please make sure you have downloaded the latest agent files from your account.
Not that I am exactly sold on the idea - but I know a lot of home users don't use firewalls.

I dunno, insurance? Sounds good till I start thinking about it and realize I will probably pay more in than what it is worth and I can only collect if he gets it stolen.

Surely there are some other solutions out there besides fake sticker, insurance, or "may or may not" work gadgettrack.

I might have to devise something on my own.

It's at least peace of mind knowing that, assuming the tech is good behind the anti-theft system, that they've wasted time stealing it and can't get anything out of it(assuming they can't find a buyer or whatever). I'm all for making the life of a scumbag thief a little more annoying.

QFT, there are a surprising number of people that don't use them. Depending on what you're doing they can also be a bit of a hassle.

there are apps that enable lockouts and security on modded psps

but in general psps can be stolen and nothing can be done about it

having worked in junior highs this was one of the more common occurences

Hire a bodyguard to follow the PSP around. That should provide enough deterrant.

I assume that GadgetTrak only activates when someone uses your PSP(or laptop) to connect to the internet?

What about some sort of GPS tracking device similar to what they have on some dog collars? I'd imagine it would be somewhat expensive, especially if you want to conceal the GPS equipment somehow... but, if you're looking for asshole-thief-proof.

The 3000 has already been popped with the latest firmware. Homebrew phonehome away sir.

Edit - Forgot to add, the only difference is the need to pick up the updated Pandora battery from Datel.
