Does anyone have this issue? A progressively louder 'buzz' as the drive in the Wii reads the disc? I've browsed the web and it seems to be a common issue but one that doesn't often have serious consequences. I emailed Nintendo about it and got the following response:
Quote:
I would be more than happy to address your concern. It is normal for some amount of noise to come from the Wii console, as there are various moving parts inside of the console. Additionally, the console may make noises as it's reading discs, which may become louder at some times than others. However, this is normal.

If the console is making extremely loud noises to where you can hear it over the TV, then there may be a problem with the console. You may set up a repair for your Wii console on our website (http://www.nintendo.com).

So with that said, I wasn't going to worry too much but just the other day, I got hitching followed immediately by a black screen error while playing certain Guitar Hero 3 tracks.

I'm likely going to send it in for repair, has anyone else had to do this for this or any other reason?

Had my Wii since launch pretty much and never had an issue.

I don't have it on it vertical ever, don't know how you position yours, but I'm not going to say that's going to solve your problem either.

Sorry I couldn't help much :(

I've had a Wii since launch too, mine is vertical, haven't had any issues but I've only played a handful of games with it. Its probably been used for less than a month straight, so like 31 x 24 hours. Shrug.

I don't play mine extensively either. It is on standby 360 days out of the year typically.

Mine buzzes every once in awhile (it's vertical), but I haven't had any other issues, really. It froze up just once when playing a game, but it wasn't buzzing at the time.

The buzzing is a minor annoyance, but it's so rare and it stops if I reset the Wii, so I'm not concerned.

Check your game discs for any scratches. The buzzing could be the disc wobbling as it spins and rubbing against something. Could also be a fan that is rubbing against something. Either way repair is a good idea.

I've never had to repair my wii but I did used to work in Nintendo's call center as a wii rep and heard this issue a few times.
