Cooking Mama is bizarre and strangely addictive.

DONT MAKE MAMA MAD!

You need to get the Phoenix Wright games, they are a must have for the DS. Start with the first one.

Advanced Wars is a fun strategy game, not sure if you can find it still, but if you can grab it. It's fun, and challenging. Hmm, there should be a thread somewhere with suggestions, it shouldn't be too old, look for it it was long and had a lot of imput. There's lots of great DS games, really depends on your taste.

Buy both Castlevania games, they are the best DS games.

New Super Mario Bros. is alright, it's kind of a step back for 2d mario games though. Your only useful suit/powerup is the fire flower and there's no Yoshi or other elements to add complexity to the stages. It feels like a continuation of the orginal Mario Bros. instead of picking up from where Super Mario World/Yoshi's Island left off.

Super Princess Peach and Yoshi's Island 2 are avoidable, both are really stupid and easy.

Pokémon is Pokémon. It adds online trading and battling to the standard Pokémon formula. The main game is pretty shitty, but once you beat the Elite Four all kinds of fun stuff opens up.

Etrian Odyssey can be fun if you're into a pure dungeon crawler with lots of level grinding. I liked it, but it can feel like a chore at times to get past certain stages.

Dragon Quest: Rocket Slime is supposed to be pretty good, though I haven't played it. You are some Dragon Quest slime that has to complete puzzles to get tank parts and then you fight the tanks or something I think.

Worms: Open Warfare 2 is a good adaptation of the Worms series that lets you play online. Just make sure you get Open Warfare 2 since the first one was completely terrible.

Kirby Canvas Curse is extremely short but fun. Worth it if you can pick it up for cheap.

Hotel Dusk: Room 215 is pretty popular, though I never played it. It's some kind of noir adventure game.

Advance Wars is a DS Game. It's a turned based strategy with tanks and stuff and the missions are all designed to completely rape you if you don't figure out the precise order to do things in. I'm not a fan of it, but it's one of the most popular DS games.

Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan[import] and Elite Beat Agents are popular rhythym games. I don't like that kind of game so I never played them.

The Phoenix Wright series is a bunch of courtroom/crime based adventure games that are wildly popular, but I found the gameplay to be very boring and tedious.

Bleach: The Blade of Fate is a really nice fighting game. I imported the Japanese version two years ago and have played it the most out of any DS game besides Castlevania. It's just fun to fight and punch people I guess.

Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin is better than Dawn of Sorrow IMO, but im sure both are still pretty top-notch DS games, they have a strong similarity to the SOTN which is the best Castlevania ever.

New Super Mario Brothers was enjoyable... Kinda feels like the SM3 days or maybe the Super Nintendo Super Mario...

If you have young kids(<7) the Interactive Storybook games are awesome for them.

Geometry wars is like the crippled version of the XBox 360 game.

Puzzle Quest can be fun, its like a RPG that you play a game like bejeweled to beat the monsters(which really sucks in some aspects, but is cool in others).

Worms and Worms 2 are awesome games, very good time killers.

SimCity DS is very much like SimCity 2000, gets old as does all Sim games, but its fun for a bit.

Super Mario 64 is cool, just like the 64 game however some new levels and you can play as different people... The control takes getting used to and even then it can be frustrating at times compared to having a stick like you did on the original...

Mario Kart DS is great if you like the Mario Kart games.

I got a ton of games i havent played yet too, so dunno bout those :P

I would check out the R4 though, it's pretty cool...

I like all the "brain" games.

Brain age 1
Brain age 2
mind quiz
Big Brain academy
Flash focous

Good time fills, you can do your daily tests and training in a small amount of time. I like that they are the same, yet different tests to do- and my scores go against myself. I also like that I can keep up em without spending hours playing it.

Someone said Advanced Wars- all 3 of my boys play that (took a while to find 3 copies with it being an older game, check resale game shops for it) out of all their games, they seem to play that the most, alone and against each other.

my oldest says pokemon games are his fav,he likes finding the rare ones, finding them all.
Another said super mario 64 on the ds.
my youngest says my sims is his favorite.

I have looked at that Mama's cooking game before- I may have to check that one out.

also i kind of wish they'd stop making ace attorney games because they're really losing the novelty

Hush! Don't you ever say that again. :(

I have to agree though, it's more of the same. But I love the series and their stories. They are still fun to me. And now we have a new lawyer coming! :O

i think the ds needs more games like hotel dusk but with some kind of action element in the play as well. i'd buy the hell out of that.

I ordered a CycloDS Evolution, which I guess is the best flashcart out on the market, and it was 55$. So far I'm very satisfied. I downloaded a torrent w/ 2400 DS games (every single one apparently?) so I am loading up a bunch of my SDHC card and will post some opinions on them later.

I finally gave in and traded my DS and games in for a PSP. I've beaten all the DS games numerous times and there really isn't any new games coming out for it that appeal to me anymore.

Zelda was a great game, but it really burnt me out on having to use the stylus for EVERYTHING. Yes, I know the touch screen is the core mechanic of the system, but come on. Some games are incredibly fun without it. The worse part is, there is a laundry list of games coming out that are Stylus only.

I still recommend the DS to people however, its still a good system with plenty of games going for it...just not the games I want to really play anymore personally.

As of right now I've got Daxter (which came with the PSP because I got the Daxter Bundle from Gamestop) and Castlevania: Dracula X Chronicles. I'm working on getting the firmware and stuff working so I can load my PSP up with SNES/Genesis Homebrews.

I plan on picking up Final Fantasy Tactics probably next week. I'll probably get the God of War game in March along with FF7 Crisis Core. A friend of mine is going to hook me up with Disgaea in a few days if possible, being that its kind of rare to get a hold of.

I'm probably going to scour some local stores for used/cheap games also.

A friend recommended using Gamefly if possible because they have the option to buy the game if you like it, and they've got quite a large selection of the more rare games.
