Anyone have a modded Wii?

I have been thinking about modding mine. I was curious if anyone had any experience w/ what works best, not necessarily HOW to do it, but any sites, guides, tips, etc or buying experience would be helpful.

Thanks

Did you read the wii update that recently went through? If you mod your wii current and future updates may brick it. :\ Nintendo apparently isn't supporting *any* mods.

That's what I was wondering about, if you mod your Wii will it brick it? I don't think Nintendo can intentionally break your shit if you have it modded, they just can't service it -- right?

Thanks for the tip though... I'll read about the update.

Well, the "new gen" of consoles are the first ones to have real firmware updates, the previous gen didn't ,which made them mod "friendly" -- however, with semi-constant firmware updates from sony, microsoft and nintendo, they can do whatever they want in the firmware. Hardware modification detection isn't easy, but is possible, and if they want to write a subroutine, they can.

Remember, by modding your console you "technically" violate the DMCA, people have been arrested/charged for possessing modded consoles.

This is what I would go for if you have an older Wii http://www.teamcyclops.com/

They have pretty consistent updates, a failsafe tool (DIY) incase you suck or something goes wrong when you flash your modchips firmware, good support, and first to get out the Mario Galaxy fix.

Check out that site and their forums, some good reading.

I don't have a mod chip yet, mostly because I'm worried about soldering and bricking my Wii, but this is what I would go for if I were you.

I was looking at Wiikey but may go for the CycloWiz...

I'm sure I can find someone on Craigslist who can do the soldering. There's all sorts of people who offer mod services there.

I didn't know modding your own hardware violated anything, I thought the people who got arrested where big pirates selling their modchips or mod services which i'm not a lawyer so I am unsure how selling services or hardware was illegal. I understand having pirated copies of games is against the law but some people just want a back up in case they lose the original or they want to preserve the original.

I don't know, I honestly don't know anyone that keeps an original and a backup of a game they own. Maybe it's because all my friends are cheap though.

Hey, why would you post this in the Super Mario Brothers Galaxy Thread:

I tried to torrent this, but it's so effing slow that it won't even be done until Nov 14th so whatever!

I'll drop the $50 regardless on this.

If you don't have a mod-chip? Why torrent something if you can't use it? Lol

Because I was going to get a cyclowiz that week for Galaxy early but since it's so slow, I'm just going to buy it.

I don't have tons of money and a modchip is a good investment, so eventually I'm going to get one.

Don't believe the hype. I know plenty of people with modified Wiis (and 360s) who have yet to be broken by the man. I'd be one of them there people.
