As I sit at my computer desk, drinking my Halo 3 Mountain Dew, I shake my head in disgust and slam my hand onto the desk. Doing so has caused my Halo 3 collectible action figure to fall down, so I stand it back upright. I glance over at my green Halo 3 Xbox 360 console, currently not being utilized. The television that it is connected to is showing the Halo 3 commercial for the 982,783rd time in the past 72 hours. I go to grab some Halo 3 potato chips, and pour some out on my Halo 3 plate. As I eat, I open up a letter from a long lost relative. A card has some nice writing in it, coupled with a Halo 3 gift card on the inside. Oops the commercial just came on for the 982,784th time...

OK you all get the idea. I know I get it. Halo 3 comes out on Tuesday. I know. I am aware. I will buy it, don't worry. Now Microsoft.....

PLEASE STOP. PLEASE. YOUR GAME IS GOING TO SELL TO AT LEAST 90% OF XBOX 360 OWNERS STRICTLY ON THE NAME "HALO". YOU DO NOT HAVE TO DO THIS. AT ALL.

Thank you.

PS- I don't have a Halo 3 console, so don't give me crap :)

I'm still going to get Halo 3 regardless, but I've been able to pretty much ignore all the hype.

Hell I've seen that "1234" Ipod Nano commercial way more than I've seen anything about Halo.

The game will go farther in getting 360 consoles in homes than it will being a revolutionary gaming experience. I'm going to all the midnight launches just to drink the free coffee and eat the little halo sandwitches.

That I think, is victory. There is so much amazing shit coming out compared to the other 2 consoles, it's so easy to ignore this game.

I ended up pre-ordering because i saw a deal... And now i have a halo 3 xbox 360.... I feel like such a goob, but it was the best 'deal' since it actually came with a HD, PnC kit, and all the other crap that the 50 dollar cheapre one didnt have.

Oh well...
http://slickdeals.net/?permadeal=10287#direct_deal_10287

Never got into Halo2, but i thoroughly enjoyed halo1...

40% is generous, everyone I know that owns one has had to send it back in at least once, including me.

And I haven't known a single person to have to send their 360 back except through these boards. YMMV!

I wonder if it would work.

Echo chamber. You never hear about the millions of users who are having no issues with their 360s. 40% is ridiculous, and has absolutely 0% validity to it.

I won't be picking up Halo 3, I dislike the games / story / mechanics. Enjoy guys!

I doubt it, I was in the mall this weekend and Gamestop had a sign that said "Line for midnight madness starts at 9PM Monday".

Heh, the local gamestop already has 200+ copies in stock according to the manager, and the local wal-marts and targets have a similar number.

TF2 destroys Halo 3 anyway.

This is factual information. No amount of improvment since buying Halo 3 beta featuring Crackdown could even make it live up the hype.

Orange Box will be the best money spent on a FPS this season.

I was disappointed when TF2 cartoonish theme was first showcased but now I changed my mind, it look awesome. Halo is good for one thing, COOP campaign play.

meh, it might be harder to get halo3 than I thought... the closest gamestop has 500 copies, and one of my friends just reserved copy #496.

Maybe wal-mart/target will have more, or will be more of a fruitful location.

There was a giant wall of Halo 3 available to rent at Hastings today. People were pissed off because they were sold out.

I rented it.

I do not like it single player obviously. Multi is standard FPS fare.

It isn't a bad game, but it doesn't stand out to me as much as some other FPS games.

Perhaps a silly question, will the Xbox version of TF2 be able to play with the PC version?

I'm very disappointed with Halo 3 so far.

The multiplayer is very fun.. but to be honest, nothing has changed in the game mechanics to keep pace with the industry. It's little more than a clone of standard FPS gameplay that has been around for years and years. The graphics, while nice, aren't on the same level as Gears of War in my opinion, and it doesn't help that so many of the enemies are exactly the same as they were in Halo 1.

The story is not the best. I'm only up to the part where you drive around in the warthog, but I remember Halo 1 being more fun and the levels much more immersive. I'm cruising around in Africa? What? Looking for some artifact? Are you kidding me? Can you find a bigger cliche? How is this the epic conclusion to such a great story? Perhaps it is coming, and I'm sure it is, but I would have thought it would start out at a certain high level and continue from there. Not standard jungle-crawling fare. Starting out in the jungle was a big letdown - hadn't I done this before in other FPS? Far Cry (what, 2-3 years old now) absolutely demolishes the outdoor environments. Normally big games like this start with a huge, impressive bang, but Halo 3 starts out with a whimper.

It's still a great game, but I thought Gears of War was both more immersive, more innovative and had better graphics than Halo 3 does.

The ending will have you pulling your hair out. I won't say anything but it was a bigger cluster fuck of a trilogy than The Matrix.

I feel pretty much the same about the graphics. While pretty, mainly the environments and weather, It offered nothing that I couldn't get anywhere else, and with more umph.

The level design was confusing as fuck. Down and up and over and around and down again through non descript tunnels and jungle caves. Your squad AI was something between the level of an eggplant and dialog from the PS1 Resident Evil as a comparison on how smart they are.

The best comparison I can make to 3s playstyle is it plays like a slow Half Life 2. The AI on Legendary isn't overly difficult, their shots just take more of your shield off. And while there wasn't a lot of dead wasted travel, it was slow enough traveling that I felt bogged, even tho I know I'm supposed to be wearing a suit of battle armor.

Maybe it was intended. Maybe they felt they had a winning formula that already had sold itself, so they really did not have to add anything in. The game already was a major success before it went gold, so all they had to do was collect and count the cash.

I hear you about the AI. It's brutal.

I can get my long range sniper rifle and just pick off bad guys without them coming after me,taking cover, etc. I found a way to push my tank past some barracades and just sat up on a hill lobbing shells at them until they were all dead.. no return fire, no chasing, nothing.

The best part of the game so far was the giant scarab tank, but to be honest, all I did was sit on my little ATV, not moving, and let me AI ally lob rockets at it until it eventually (eventually) died.

The multiplayer is pretty fun.

Played it at work the other day. Hated it. My opinions were echoed by most of the team.

My father is enjoying it but he's a casual FPS player, so I don't think he cares about all the details that hardcore gamers (most of the people I work with) do.

I haven't played multiplayer yet, but I'm enjoying the campaign so far. The best part that I've seen is the battle with two scarabs at once.

Games released before another game can't be that game's "killer"

Halo 3 may not have been released until recently, but its hype started before Warhawk was even on the radar.

Probably because Halo 2 was a huge game before anyone gave a fuck about hearing about a new Warhawk.

And Warhawk hasn't made a blip on Halo 3's radar. I'm not even sure Bungie's even heard of this game that you call the "Halo 3 Killer"

To be completely honest, I'd only heard of warhawk in passing mention on the news pages of gaming webcomics like CAD or PA. Nothing could beat the Halo 3 hype, which means that no game release this week could have competed with it.

That brings a question...*was* there any other game released this week besides Halo 3?

I saw Warhawk videos from E3, but the only reason I paid any attention to it enough to remember seeing it was because a buddy played the Warhawk on PS1.

Halo 3 caused delays in Assassains Creed and Conan.

Of course it would be stupid to launch same week as Halo 3, everybody knew that. It was a console selling game. I don't even believe anything was released across any system.

The only place I have heard of Warhawk is the game that was the emergancy prototype for the halfass attempt at Sony's 8 axis motion controller, and since it's a PS3 title, I could give two shits either way.

Halo 3 will make the 360 strong and hopfully force Sony's hand in coming up with something to set themselves apart from the rest. And that is a good thing.

NPR reported that Halo 3 did $170 million in sales in the first day alone, which is both a record for a game and beats the record for any movie release as well.
