I have a big problem. I've run out of good RPG's, and I want more, yet I hate renting games. I dont care too much about graphics, although they are always a plus. PS1 games are fine, I just want some good games to while away when I have some spare time.<

Here's what I have / played:<

Alundra 2<

Final Fantasy V VI VII VIII IX X X-2<

Oh, and it has to have a "decent" story line. <i></i>

I assume both KOTOR I and II are available on PS. I'd recommend those. (Knights of the Old Republic).<

I've heard Kingdom Hearts is also really good. <

Any of the Suikoden series.<

I'd also highly recommend Disgaea: Hour of Darkness (if you're into tactical RPGs) <i></i>

Final Fantasy Tactics is the only game you will ever need to own. <i></i>

Shadow Hearts : Covenant is one of the best RPG's ever, give it a look.<
>

Disgaea is a great recommendation. Strategy/Tactical RPG, but damn if it isn't a good one. I actually enjoyed this more than Final Fantasy Tactics. It does have an anime/cartoony feel to it, and the voiceovers are hit or miss, but the gameplay is incredibly deep, and the story certainly isn't cliched. It also makes fun of pretty much every tired RPG cliche ever. Highly recommended, although pretty hard to find. Expect 40 bucks and up for even a used copy. Totally worth it though, you can spend over a thousand hours easilly on this game and still see new stuff.<
>

>
Dark Cloud 2 is a wonderful action RPG, probably my favorite action RPG ever. The shooting elements are better than many shooting platformers. The building/city management stuff can get wierd, but the classic RPG levels are top notch. Good art direction, too.<
>
<
>
Shin Megami Tensei : Nocturne is a good classic style RPG with a great Ico-ish style. Talk to demons to get them on your team with the right
ibes, then combine demons together to get new and better demons to use in your fight. Lots of random encounters can drag this down a bit, but it's still a great pickup.<
>
<
>
Aetelier Iris is another classic style RPG with 2D sprites, giving it a very old school feel, even though the graphics are nice, detailed and sharp. Fairly easy game if you're looking to just mess around.<
>
<
>
There are a bunch more like Shin Megami Tensei : Digital Devil Saga which I hear is good. Suikoden 3 is amazing, Suikoden 4 not so much. Check http://www.gamerankings.com, platform PS2, genre RPG-ALL for more options. ---------------------------------<

I hate to agree with binkee but if you haven't played FFT yet you have missed probably the greatest game ever made outside of possibly FF3.<
>
<
>
Brigidana (sp) for PS1 is pretty fun but again more strategy then roleplaying.<
>
<
>
Disega was great, phantom
ave isn't to bad either. Also if you like those type I would say get the 3rd one, la pacella tactics (sp). All will take up 100+ hours of your time if you are a gamer that enjoys really beefing your characters up.<
>
<
>
Aside from that I haven't played a good actually good RPG for years, the new Romance of the 3 kingdoms is quite good fun if you like strategy again. Kessen 3 is great for a storyline more action type rpg, you still get items and plenty of people to use etc.<

For me the old school joys of playing a normal RPG have been dead for so long I don't think they will ever be able to be revived. Part of me has died inside, help!<

Aye, Final fantasy tactics is the shit. My life is better because i beat that game 4 times in and out. Also, as mentioned, the Suikodens are excellent. Although, some are hard getting a hold of, mainly the 2nd. Veteran Kaidus Pain

Atelier Iris, Ys: The Ark of Napishtim, Tales of Symphonia, Growlanswer Generations (Especially this one. Loved it, because it gives you actual choices in how you want to play the story without terrible graphics), Shadow Hearts: Covenant (very very good because of the unique setting). <a href="http://www.botepidemic.com/frikbot/q1mons/"><img src="http://www.botepidemic.com/frikbot/q1mons/enforcer.jpg" border=0 alt="I'm An Enforcer! Got Final Fantasy Tactics, and Threads of Fate today.<
>
Talked to the guy at the gamestore, he said Dark Cloud was just plain "weird", and advised me against it.<
>
Also realized I had also played Legend of Dragoon, and Legend of Mana / Secret of Mana, which I enjoyed.<
>
Couldnt find some of those games, which platforms are they on? Playstation, or PS2? <i></i>

The guy at your gamestore is retarded. Dark Cloud 2 is on many, many greatest RPG's of all time list, for good reason. It was a greatest hit, so it should be very easy to find. Don't get the first Dark Cloud though.<
>
<
>
Legend of Dragoon was Saturn or something, I don't think it was a mainstream console like the PS1. Legend of Mana was PS1 IIRC, but wasn't as good as Secret of Mana, which was SNES. ---------------------------------<

Legend of dragoon was playstation one if I recall.<

Don't bust through FFT unless you are forsure going to play it again, you can actually beat the game in like 20-25 hrs I think cake but it is so much more fun to fully dive into the character development aspects of the game and to unlock the 9 or 11 lvls of hell etc. That game was amazing but if they would have added 20 more hours of content that thing would have gone done with out a doubt as the greatest game ever created for any genre.<
>
<
>
...damnit i was gona go float the salt river this weekend with a keg but I might have to postpone it and go start up FFT again. <i></i>

I disliked Dark Cloud also. It just wasn't enough story progression between long series of battles for me.<

The newest Mana series is Atelier Iris for ps2. <a href="http://www.botepidemic.com/frikbot/q1mons/"><img src="http://www.botepidemic.com/frikbot/q1mons/enforcer.jpg" border=0 alt="I'm An Enforcer! Take the 'What Quake monster am I?' test!"></a><i></i>

Legend of Dragoon was crap. It's like all the worst parts of FF7 mixed in with THE LONGEST SCREEN WIPE EVER WHEN YOU GO TO EVERY GODDAMN BATTLE and also the music sucked shit. <i></i>

If you liked Legend of Dragoon I sincerely recommend you immediately go and shoot yourself in the head in the hopes of possibly lobotomizing the portion of your

Seriously though, that is the only game, EVER, that I literally decided never to beat. I
oke the CD in half. <i></i>

On another note, how good was Lunar/Lunar 2? I know it has good reviews, but hard to imagine that an old game like that isn't riddled with bad things like constant, never ending random battles (I can't STAND walking a few feet just to engage a monster again, or having to search through dungeons for a certain item and walking again and again into random battles because you get lost). Opiiiiinions? <a href="http://www.botepidemic.com/frikbot/q1mons/"><img src="http://www.botepidemic.com/frikbot/q1mons/enforcer.jpg" border=0 alt="I'm An Enforcer! I liked Lunar / Lunar 2, the trash is visible on screen, so you "can" avoid it, and just trapese through the dungeouns at low level if you like, but in some dungeons you have to keep re-entering / leaving rooms to powerlevel, because previous boss was so weak, yet trash from next area is pretty damn powerful.<
>
It's also riddled with anime, so if you dont like anime, the cut-scenes etc are going to make you pull your hair out. <i></i>

alright, if you can see the monsters then this is my kinda game. I just don't like the surprise of the monsters in most games. <a href="http://www.botepidemic.com/frikbot/q1mons/"><img src="http://www.botepidemic.com/frikbot/q1mons/enforcer.jpg" border=0 alt="I'm An Enforcer! I only played the original Lunar, it was fuckin awesome. The anime was a nice touch. It has a pretty interesting story and if I recall it takes a while to get through it, but I'm going on memories from many years ago. All I know was I loved it then, and if I could find where I put it I would play it now =P <

It was humourous, that was my favorite part of the game. Peeping in the girls bath house and collecting all those pictures was awesome. <i></i>

Just grabbed it off Ebay for 20 dollars. Pretty nice considering you get the same thing you'd get if buying it from Gamestop for 41 dollars.<

Anyway, can't wait until Dragon Warrior VIII comes out. Heard nothing but great things about the Dragon Warrior series, and now the graphics and interface are finally going to be upgraded. <a href="http://www.botepidemic.com/frikbot/q1mons/"><img src="http://www.botepidemic.com/frikbot/q1mons/enforcer.jpg" border=0 alt="I'm An Enforcer! Yeah, Lunar 2 was pretty good, except for the horrible voice acting. It was forgivable, except in story battles where you HAD to hear them talking - got pretty grating.<

Game was pretty excellent though. <i></i>
