Post subject: KOTOR 2 or Jade Empire?
PostPosted: Sun Jun 12, 2005 11:10 PM

So after playing through KOTOR again (this time as light side) recently I'm getting the itch to buy a new RPG. I liked the original KOTOR a lot, so I'm leaning towards KOTOR 2 but I've heard many good reviews of Jade Empire, so I'm not sure which to buy. I seem to remember seeing reviews of both here before the board wipe but I never read them, and now they're gone. So someone who's played both give me some advice, which one should I buy first?<

Edit: as a side note I'd be open to other PC/Xbox RPG suggestions if anyone has some. Edited by: some merchant at: 6/13/05 1:10 am<

tough call. <

Of the two I think KOTOR2 is a longer game with more replay value. You can rent Jade Empire and finish the game in roughly 20 hours.<

So I'd say rent Jade Empire, buy KOTOR2.

KOTOR2 is really frustrating if you really liked the first. The fact that it is a great game only makes the crappy ending more annoying. <

Still, I'd recommend it over Jade Empire. Star Wars' background is way cooler.

The ending to KOTOR2 was even more disappointing when people cracked the voice files on the disk. These voice files show the ending that was originally planned.<

And had it been actually FUCKING DONE, it would have surpassed KOTOR. It would have blown KOTOR away. I don't even say that lightly.<

Despite that bitter disappointment, I think it's better than Jade Empire. Jade Empire's weak combat system makes it a game that has little replay value, but an interesting story line (and nice graphics). Jade Empire also has (IMO) the funniest "join your group" character ever. (The Bun Master). <

You can easily play through Jade Empire on a rental though. I would do that before buying it.<

Buy KOTOR 2 for PC. There's a mod in the works to fix the ending using the original voice files and script that weren't used in the actual game. It isn't done yet, but it'll be worth getting the PC version if and when it ever gets finished.<

If you like hack and slash games, check out Fate. It's a action RPG similar to Diablo with a few new tweaks like a pet dog or cat that can transform into various monsters, and a fishing minigame that can make you serious money. Core gameplay is basically a refined version of Diablo. Game's 20 bucks for the full version, and you can try out the demo at : http://www.wildgames.com/ECS/htd...mname=fate<

It's made by Wild Tangent, which is or isn't a spyware company depending on who you ask. I did have a gamedrvr.exe start loading on startup after installing Fate, supposedly it's a game patch thing. ---------------------------------<

Damn, if it comes out I'll buy a PC copy. That would own. I only finished the game once because of that lame-ass ending.<

Rent Jade Empire. While it does have good/evil, you'll see that it doesn't really affect the overall outcome, so you probably won't want to play through it several times. Just play through it and base your decisions around what would be the funnest, not what would give you the most replay value.<
