Looking for suggestions on priest spec for WOTLK to
1) level up, quests
2) PvP
3) 5 man instances

For 1) I'm thinking 3/3 spirit tap in shadow, boost smite/holy dmg/heals
For 2) I'm thinking Disc, disc and more disc
For 3) Disc works for 5 man

51 in Disc to get penance (great heal and meh dmg)
3/3 spirit tap shadow (helps grinding mobs for quests)
7 pts into Holy (likely 2 focus, 3 renew, 2 into divine fury) more pts 70-80.

One could also argue go into holy to get searing light, surge of light, holy reach, and improve healing. that's 27 pts, then 3 in shad, then 31 in disc. grow 10 pts in disc? Doesn't get me to the goodies in Disc.

I started playing a priest but have no idea what type of gear I should be going for.

So far I have been going all stamina/intelligence, is this the right idea, or should I go for int/spirit, or spirit/stam?

I have it up to 27 and put all my points into holy so far.

Solo is not so bad, just need to drink lots after hard fights, and I noticed my little priest can't solo tough mobs as easily as a mage or melee type can.

Immediately put 3/3 into shadow - spirit tap to help mana

In the past folks recommended being shadow until lvl 60.
Now that holy fire is useful, and we traded that debuff buff for a DOT with small heal, you can easily.

Power word shield
shadow word pain
devouring plague (new)
holy fire (improved)
smite, smite, smite
renew as needed

shadow still has value, its just that you can do holy/disc do decent dmg, and heal well.

dang, spirit tap eh', maybe I will respect then

I am almost up to 2k mana, and I can blow that on just a few mobs

I been doing this:

shadow word pain
holy fire
mind blast
smite smite smite/ holy fire if needed if cool down done

up to level 29 now, will toss in the plague and see if that helps

and didn't know about power word shield, will have to start using that, now that I see what it does

now have 3 points into that spirit tap, that rocks

I can cruise through 3-4 mobs at my level without taking hardly any damage before I need to restock on my mana pool
