I guess its due to numerous factors, number 1 being the free PvP/Arena/T6 Armor issue.

I think #1 is the "too many idiots" issue.

Well, tie "too many idiots" and "too many idiots bitching and complaining that the 'free' armor they got last night was removed" together and that would be a more accurate way of putting it.

I don't mean any WoW hate and I also understand mistakes can happen to anyone at any level but, are we not in the age of MMO's where a company like Blizzard / WoW should be byond this type of issue?

Looking from a profressional aspect this could have been something easy to look over when you have an expansion being hashed out by the majority of your resources within a couple of days until release.

However, the WoW community just blows me away. I think you have to understand the amount of people involved but there are a lot of immature people that are just intolerant and ignorant. I think I enjoyed MMO's during the days when the playbase consisted of a more niche group of people. However, I guess that's not a fair approach but, you have to say, people in general are not as kind or open social in MMO's today as it was in the prime of EQ. Not to sound old but it must be a generational thing.

Here's hoping to a good expansion and a good release day.

I don't know how kind and generous things were in EQ. I think people tend to idealize the past rather than face the facts. :)

I find it hard to judge a game by its playerbase, because there will always be diamonds in the rough and good people to group with regardless of how many idiots there are.

On the other hand, I agree with Muligan that EQ contained a good number more mature players. The thing is, MMORPGs had to overcome the huge stigma of "only fat nerds and geeks and nolives play that shit." and "lol the game has no ending!! looks like an overrated chat room!". EQ didn't accomplish that. It wasn't until a really popular gaming company and franchise came along that it was allowed to become fully mainstream.

And the stereotype wasn't without its merits, but on the other hand you had mature people that were genuinely interested in the new landscape of RPG gaming. People who were open-minded and wanted to explore something new tended to be the more mature crowd, in much the same way the old MUD communities were(in part of course because your average 10-year-old wasn't going to easily be able to pop onto the internet in that era, let alone know what MUDs were). Same was true for EQ in that it was a niche market, and only appealed to people that were on a certain "edge" of gaming.

EQ contained a lot of mature players because it culled out the sheer mouthbreathing horde. (Not to say many didn't still persevere.)

I still think the number of people who tried EQ was much, much higher than the average playerbase. But many people couldn't hack it. Alternatively, many people didn't feel like playing a game where constantly kicking you in the balls was a feature.

I don't know whether that's an argument about our maturity or immaturity at the time, honestly.

It wasn't that much more mature. I remember a lot of retarded drama threads on these boards that many of us would scoff at today.

wotlk should be fun, there's a point to play. i can level my main guy to 80, get new gear along the way, and i can level a death knight. that's fun. i suspect when i hit 80 on both it may no longer be fun tho.

I tried to level up myself and just not finding the drive for it. Got like 1.5 levels and just went meh when I got to next quest area. New world, same feeling. Not that I'm finding any other game more interesting. Warhammer has been a disappointment.

i am not into Warhammer... I played it but didn't engage me like a great MMO should. I still have my acct, but I am going to play WoW for now. My sister and her husband, and our father love it. So, maybe some day I'll play w/ them. Who knows. AoC sucked and I sold my acct to Draagun. At least that was a stinker I knew I'd never play ever again.

There's a player on Aggramar named Misha who unfortunately reminds me of ol' Mishakaal. I've never been brave enough to ask if they were the same person, because I don't want that person to talk to me.

Warhammer was a nice diversion/break from WoW leading up to the expansion. I do really wish the game luck, they've ADDED to the overall MMO community with some unique ideas.

I wanted to level up a tank, was pissed I couldn't be a blood elf, and viola' along comes Death Knight. Once I get my priest to 80, instead of grinding BG's, and the weekly raid, I'll likely work up my DK. Then be stuck grinding BG's.

SQL folks, you know this dance.

Anytime there's a user-impacting issue, you freeze the tables as much as you can to limit the damage.
