If you enjoy logging in along with 4 million china men, levelling up their gold bots in every zone

and waiting 45 minutes for each possible quest mob you might need THEN SURE its worth it

I'm overexxaggerating of course but opening day of any expansion is a cluster fuck in new zones

Yeah, I'd wait a few days. Take your time on the first two days to explore, marvel at all the new content and zones and then hit it hard right after the first wave is to the second zone or area of quests. Personally..

You're better off taking the 15th off anyway, since the servers will probably be up and down the day the expansion comes out.

Ugh, the days after an expansion release are miserable. Maybe it's the agoraphobe in me, but just being in a crowded zone bugs me enough to log off - server crashes, quest mob poaching, and general instability notwithstanding.

Anyone who skips work or school for a video game is a complete and total loser devoid of responsibility. But then again if you're a 31 year old man in college who hasn't graduated yet, why not go that extra mile?

I get long weekends on Thanksgiving and Christmas anyway. =) Between my WoW vacation and Thanksgiving days, November is practically gonna be one big paid holiday!

Get a "real job" before suggesting things like "cash em out!" Not all jobs work the same and not all people who actually have jobs can just say "I have 4 vacation days left so I'll just take the whole week before New Year's off." Or try to curb that inner asshole just once and say "whatever floats your boat" first rather than after calling people losers for wanting to take a day off to do something they enjoy. I'm sure you've done the same at least once before.

I would wait, like they said... the first few days suck.

I would consider taking the 17th off... that gives you a 4 day work week, then a 3 day work week.

I'm salaried at my position. Doesn't get more "real" than that. Excepting maybe having a yearly+ contract or something. Being able to cash out your built up days is a perk though. Most companies don't offer it. They either lapse or carry over (at some places.)

I just think it's utterly retarded to skip work or school to play a video game. We're not 16 and playing hooky from school anymore, guys. I'd say the same thing to a friend IRL who was going to skip work/school to play a game on launch. It's just irresponsible.

Imagine telling your boss "Hey I'm not coming in because World of Warcraft is releasing a new expansion. Sorry." You'd get laughed at 9 times out of 10 and it would irk your boss, I guarantee it. It's not just me who is an "asshole" your boss most likely would be an "asshole" too. Your boss would think, "Who the fuck is this asshole? He wants to take a day off, for a video game?"

How about "I want to take a day off" and leave it at that? If someone's earned the time, it's not the boss's business why they take the day, so long as the needs of the business are met.

I'm also salaried at my position, get Sugar bowl tickets every year as part of one of my quarterly bonuses, and if you do not use your vacation you lose your vacation. So needless to say what my wife does not suck up on family vacations i do use it to have ME time playing WoW for whatever reason. You should try not being so smug in your little whatever world son and get a life. little miss "im an expert at nothing at all"

.....Also its not " hey 'm not coming in cause i want to play wow", its "im not coming in cause im sick", "my mom died", or what ever else it is. Not everyone here is an idiot like you.

I really don't want to start a pissing contest either, but that logic is fucked up and you know it, Sky. Taking a day off to do something you enjoy is perfectly fine. You, for whatever new and improved reason, have suddenly decided that gaming is kid's play and any adult that takes enjoyment out of it is somehow an idiot, a loser, and irresponsible. Really, if someone said they had courtside tickets to a Suns game against the Lakers but it was a Monday DAY game, would you not consider taking a personal day at your "salaried job" to go to the game? It's the same thing. People have vacation days, let them use them as they see fit. It's certainly better than calling in sick because you were up all night raiding or exploring a new zone.

When I made my original comment it was more in line with skipping school or calling in to work. I don't have much of a problem with people taking hard earned vacation days though. What do you care though? I'm just me.

What I found funny at TBC release was the unspoken truce between Alliance/Horde while leveling. People wouldn't jump in if a ganker came along, or if a ganker was repelled the defenders wouldn't attack the rest of the opposite faction. Big old carebear heaven until people hit 70 and went ganking.

Also, being called a loser/idiot/irresponsible/jew by Skycrasher should be taken as a compliment.

TBC's launch was pretty good, from what I remmeber- my friends and I all had our blood elves up and leveling np opening day. No idea about outlands, tho, as we all rerolled completely.

Outlands was crazy on release day. there was lag and I think they had to do a zone reset or two through the first few days.

Yeah it was bad but if you are smart you will stick to instances the first 2-3 days because I remember that was the only safe place from the lag during TBC launch even at midnight.

ANYWAY...taking off the 14th is foolish. Based on the problems my server had just with the Big Patch...If I were taking vacation time to level, I'd take the week after the expansion is out. The servers should be more stable then and hopefully it's less of a clusterfuck.

Especially since it seems like half the people I know are burning vacation time the week of release heh.

Anyway... take the 17th or 18th off dawgs, it'll hopefully be stable by then. I'm guessing we may have to wait until then 18th, or WORST case scenario a week after that until the next maintenence for it to be very stable.

Venen...for some odd reason seeing you say "dawgs" seems out of place..

On a side note! Can anyone actually confirm what time the servers are going to be flipped on/playable?

I'm not going to waste my time to go pick up the game wed.@ midnight if the game isn't going live until friday....

Is it friday at midnight? Any specific times? I didn't see anything on WoW official page but I won't lie....I wanted to spend as little time in downs city as possible.

I predict all my IT and IP engineers will be missing on the 14th.

Most all companies have closed budgets out for the rest of the year to see how the economy impacts them. Also we have network moratoriums if you're a carrier. So things will be dead dead dead. So if you have the time why not burn it for a couple mental health days starting on the 14th.

I finally found a company where my vacation carries over, and I'm not in California !!! wewt.

Huh? You mean for the servers to actually boot up? I really doubt that, or at least hope it's not true. Assuming the servers aren't batshit crazy, that gives east coasters a 3-hour headstart - not to mention people who happen to work at Best Buy/Gamestop etc and got the game early.

Last expansion it happened on the game time.

It was 12:02am when a blood elf popped into Org and started dancing at the mailbox- thats when we said, oh shit we can load it up now. My time is was 3:02am

I remember doing /who bloodelf and watching how quick they leveled up. also the /who 65, /who 66 ect til we finally saw some 70s on.

Sadly I realized last night before work that my piece o shit pc that lags now, will not be able to handle the game :hiding:

Now the goal is to buy whatever cheap ass thing I can to get it to work. With the way layoffs n such are going I don't wanna go buy new. Here's hoping I can find something to make it til income tax time!

The expansion is already there. There isn't any booting required. You enter your WotLK code, and you go when they turn it on at whatever time they turn it on. I'll look for an official post later today. If you don't want to watch for the blimps, or whatever shit alliance use, you could just keep trying to make a new character and watch for the Death Knight icon to ungrey.

9pm PST is Midnight EST. I have no idea what you are talking about with a 3 hour advantage, in either of my posted possible launch times. If you mean staying up past midnight, I stopped giving a shit about that almost two decades ago.

West coast retailers haven't been told. NO ONE is releasing the game prior to midnight in CA.

Gamestop is selling the game at 10pm...but won't give you your copy until midnight.

Assholes.

Installed, patching now. Waited in line for about an hour, not too bad. Cold, though.

Gotta say, I was worried on wednesday, but that was a super smooth release. I had 0 downtime and my vacation days were well used.

I took off Friday and Monday in the end... 0 down time and only 1 5 min queue... 70 Death Knight = way more fun that I imagined.

I had some time off on Friday and Monday (however I still had to answer the call to work and bwe a responsible father/husband...) Consider that I am playing on Gnomer, I have not had many issues with queues and when I did have a queue it was not a very long one.

My guild had the sever first 80, (Night Elf, Druid); first 80 Warlock (human); first 80 Warrior; first 80 Death Knight. The the first three 80's are friends of mine that live in Vegas and played pretty much non-stop from release until they hit 80 sometime on Saturday.

I did all the quests in BT first then moved to HF and now in Dragonblight. Following the quests has been ok, have been running into a few "fights" over quest mob spawns. Since I have moved to Dragonblight I think I am between the rabbits and the next group so the mob/ore fighting hasn't been nearly as bad.

I have done the instance in the fjord, the nexus, and the two instances in dragonblight already. Some of the fights are intersting, but the groups I went in with (mostly guildies) we just crushed them.
