I'm noticing that they released the last expansion almost 6 months ago and they haven't announced anything new yet. They usually announced new expansions at or before the time they released the previous one. Are they finally pulling the plug on making expansions?

Expansions come once per year. There is one planned for Fall 2009. I would imagine around September or so, since the last one IIRC came out in September 2008.

As far as it being dead... I dunno. I still see former players coming back and playing. I don't believe it is adding any new players, just new box accounts and former players coming back. Of course it is not at WoW levels, but I don't think it is doing that awful. I have noticed that bazaar used to have around 220 traders, and in the past couple months that has dropped to around 185. Take that info for however you want to analyze it...

EQMac is experiencing a large influx of players at the moment.

I heard FV is too.

A lot of noise being made on FOH boards.

If you base your assumption on EQ being dead, due to no expansion announcement then you would most likely be wrong. Of course, one would need to know your definition of the word "dead" to accurately answer.

If only one expansion a year means a game is dead, WoW has been dead since day one.

WoW is lucky to get a point release out on that schedule.

The conjecture I was drawing is that Everquest has a pretty set schedule of expansions and announcements that they seem to have deviated from.

Previously they would have one expansion come out a year and fairly soon afterward announce the next one.

I haven't seen any announcements since the last expansion came out six months ago.

If they are planning on releasing an expansion in the fall that is about 5-6 months away wouldn't they have announced it by now?

These things make me doubtful they are releasing an expansion this year. I'm guessing that either they are working on something huge like a major overhaul expansion, an expansion that rivals the size of Kunark, or they are done making expansions. The player base may not be large enough to be worth the cost of producing them anymore.

I wasn't suggesting the player base was going anywhere, for the most part it is already gone. The people that remain are pretty core and I don't think they are going anywhere. My definition of 'dead' in this case would be no more new content.

Right now EQ is on the Fabled and 10th Anniversary run. It's been fun.

I hate to say it, but I've actually been having a lot of fun playing on the EQEmu server that I'm on...all those old dungeon crawls (Guk!) are as fun as I remember. =O
