I have a quick question for those that are still playing EQ1. Does the option to choose between Luclin and pre-Luclin graphics still exist? Personally the vanilla EQ graphics were so much better than the deformed and disfigured ones from Luclin. I would consider re-sub'ing if the option is still there.

if you use old models, and still want horses just use a skely illusion. There are tons of illusion items now, via quests, or potions. The Halloween event is yearly and yields a Frost Bone skely click mask.

Re-activated for the anniversary. Kill me.

Not sure how long the enjoyment of EQ will last, but if I can tackle some Fableds and check out the upcoming revamps of Unrest and Cazic Thule, that should keep me happy for a little while.

Should be fun to check out mercs as well. That should help with levelling woes.

Anyone running (or tried running) EQMac? They are still at PoP and the Sleeper is sleeping. Suppose to be a really friendly community as well.

Wish they would make EQMac sub either cheap annual or 4.99 a month.

Happy 10th EQ!

Hey Draconi
Is the "Chod" you're referring to Chodeus Melodious the bard? Oh please say it's so, I really miss him and Twernt...and Jalen, Aeralla, Cucu, Psyloke, Camdar (R.I.P), Rurog, Mesos, TSO, MW and rest of old Lanys.

Drac!! Oh it's on now. I will remember the name from now on. I have to say, your toon is TOUGH. I will make it a point to finish grinding out my BG (had a DoK and re-reolled). I'll make sure Xolar knows too. We'll make sure both of you die an extra couple of times a night.

Oh snap, it's Jalen!@@#@$$@#$
Gosh where have you been? So many names that have gone but surprisingly are still lurking here and there. As for me Jalen, I did Final Fantasy 11 for like a few months, then WoW since launch. Warhammer a few months. It just got too monotonous rolling pvp scenarios over and over. Last I check Tchi and some Conquests are still there. Shoot me an email at surfmor@gmail.com Jalen! Lots to catch up on.

When Ralanan led Visions formation , right after the CQ sleeper incident and most of Inner fire splitting, it was a good core raid group.

After Ral left game, and Ellyria and Eiwyn took over, the dramaz started and the bullshit they pulled was rampant.
oh that and we had Ketsui and Sarthis who always seemed to somehow poke FL in the eye

I remember Frizznik, pulling some of the more sensible members of FL and Visions to the "vaunted" gm interrogation room/zone, think it was me Vekanos, and Gryvin and Cadaeus (spelling) and Leolan, Elessar for FL

Don't think anything ever got worked out in there that I remember, but its was the most animated amped up Leolan that I ever remember in game.

Ralanan was my hero, ha! He let me duo Shrooms with him when i was 56 or so, he had a thing for non-traditional groups. So the damn Fungi actually dropped, and he just let me have it since I managed to survive. Feign Death will be a gaming tool I will always wish I had in any other game I play.

Ral was there as well. He and I worked out the deal afterward. Mostly after Elly was done yapping inanely.

Also, Sarthis and Kets couldn't hold a candle (or even hold their jocks) to Cagen and Listero. They got smoked on pulls on regular basis. THAT'S what drove them nuts. I think they spent an entire week all night trying emulate FL's bard/monk Tormax pull.

The day Visions were sploiting Aary through the door and Janaka stood there with it happening behind her was amazing.

Roror train was easily the last straw tho.

My biggest regret is how Sigil just turned out to be Visions + 15. "The List" was such a crock of shit it was insulting.

Looking back, I agree. It was probably the dumbest thing I'd done the entire time I was in EQ. I was just soooo fucking burnt out, and Leo was as well. I didn't want folks drifting off and it was my hope some other folks would step up and dominate Cad. That whole process sucked, and the officers can tell ya that REALLY tore me up. I won't stand here and state that *I* was the glue that held that shit together. I guess I was the glue that kept the different factions within FL together that were the REAL nucleus to that guild. The merger just made it worse, and only served to weaken the real core.

That said, there were some that should've been let go in FL if not for the recruiting drought on Lanys, but all credibility there was shattered when Truk and Kaylain were included. I never should've caved on that count.

God damn that was a long time ago. Surprised how well I remember that. Guess it was more than a game and the players more than that. It's funny that I now have Xan on my facebook list, and can talk to Khan. Everyone's all moved past that now, but I really do feel like shit for how that went down. In the end, Xan was right. At the time, I really did think it was the right thing to do, but the friendships lost...

Eh, I guess were learn as we get older. I don't think I remember the person I was back then. Amazing how fatherhood changes you so dramatically. Go figure that I've learned real empathy from a 6 year old after all this time ;P

I apped and got into Sigil, then quit EQ shortly after that. The atmosphere was one of the most unfriendly I've ever been in, and Kamukuk being a total fuckface didn't really help matters. I enjoyed most everyone, but there were about 3 that made it incredibly unpleasant. Not demanding, yelling at you when you sucked unpleasant. Mean spirited douchebaggery, towards everyone.

I don't know how you guys remember all the stuff that happened back then. It's like a massive blur, I didn't even remember Visions or Sigil until you guys brought it up. I guess that's because I spent far more time in SA and Conquest. That game has a lot of great memories, but I just can't imagine going back and trying to play it after all these years.

Oh ya, and Ranger Mafia > you all. It's a shame there hasn't really been another class like it since then.

Elessar, it is amazing how much I am sure we have all grown over the years. I sometimes wonder what EQ would have been like if time shifted 10 years. I was in High School when EQ started up in 99 and now I am coming up on a 10 year runion, college grad, 5 years into a company, and married with a 19 month old. However, even with the drama and a few odd personalities, Lanys was mostly a server filled with good people. We all had friendships but I think we also let EQ get out of hand at times. We grew tired, burned out, became older and went through life's changes.

I say this because this makes me think of when we broke off from 7D. I always regretted that and it was simply a misunderstanding and miscommunication. Xan and I (along with some great people) brought two guild families together and would have really had a great thing over time. Actually 7D carried on just fine, we met great people in Circle of Truth, and I eventually met my goal of taking up with a raid guild in Conquest and Fallen Legacy. It was good playing with SC as well. Regardless, no matter what happened or where I landed throughout my long stint in EQ, Lanys always had welcoming people. I can say one thing, MMO's are nothing like that today. I am starting to talk to more people here and there, hang out with some of the same names each night but, community isn't a necessity and I don't care much to meet a lot of new people. I'm passed that I guess, it's something you really enjoy in that late teens and early 20's. I now mostly play with 3-5 family and friends when we can and have a great time.

I have thought about loading EQ up on my MacBook just to goof off but ultimately, EQ will never be what is was simply because you can't recreate that time. Man, all the stories just start flooding in and I can't believe I remember have the crap that went down.

Anyway, Xan... sorry, I reconciled with Tanaman not longer after everything and no one ever seem to hold much of a grudge on Lanys in any situation I remember. EQ was just a game but you are dealing with people and that is something I always tried to consider as well.

Eli - Ranger Mafia was Visions era, you numpty :p
Well, right up until the Rangers started to get divided between Visions, Conquest, and Fallen Legacy. Things seemed to go downhill at that point until it culminated with Sigil and the infamous "list".

But yeah, the Mafia made EQ truly enjoyable for quite some time. Nothing like targeting Yelinak, and seeing:
Elidrin's bow crackles with natural energy.
Skie's bow crackles with natural energy.
Your bow crackles with natural energy.
Kilwen's bow crackles with natural energy.
Gothor's bow crackles with natural energy.
Elidrin tells the group, "Unleash hell."

Think Lasso joined us near the end as well, so I don't want to exclude him at all :) He ended up being the best geared out of all of us in the long run, and turned out to be a damn fine Ranger.

But after the violation to Rangers that was Kunark (anyone who played a Ranger back then will remember well the first time they zoned in Karnor's and got hit for 200s), it was nice to be with you guys at our peak. Made for some really memorable raids.

Jox - yeah, that pretty sums up Kamukuk. The sad part was that there was a faction with Sigil that actually enjoyed Kamukuk.
I never understood that...

Yeah, this was the single event that ruined 3 and some odd years of play in one afternoon for me. I still remember being blindsided by the FL forum post and linking over to "the list" and sitting there staring at my name among those not in the Tali buddy club. It's nice to hear Elessar admit it was a crappy thing to do.

I still enjoy using archive.org to look at old guild home page updates. I'll need to dig up some of my more colorful Oryx home page updates off the hard drive.

While you're admitting wrongs Tali, why'd you give Lannarie/Solanthious 1h primal weps over me?!

Not to be a dick, but that list was a HUGE source of entertainment back then to outsiders just from looking to see "WHO MADE THE CUT". Honestly though I can only imagine the frustration of being with a guild for so long and then being told you're out =/

Other than Kam training people and acting like a dick in BoT. My dealings with him were rather limited. As most of us know when you get into a raid guild pickup groups tend to disappear. Secrecy was the by word on raid targets and it's hard to keep a secret quiet if you tell your buddies "I gotta go kill Cazic". Because then the race was on and I know everyone kept tabs of all the other guilds to see who was going where. Besides it was easier to leave a camp if everyone was in the same guild to go off raiding.

I don't think I remember "the list". Was that a FL thing when transitioning over into Sigil?

Bloody hell Eli, are you ebayed?! :)

"The list" was when FL and Visions merged into Sigil.
Most made the cut. Some did not. Those who didn't were pretty much left for dead with a "sorry you didn't make it" apology.

I think all of the Rangers made it, although 1 or 2 might have been cut. I made it (although I was the last Ranger listed, and probably added as an afterthought, hahaha), but promptly rejected the offer and quit, as my raiding time was coming to a close at that point anyways (RL and work were getting the better of me), but also partly because I didn't agree with the merger.

It was the list of visions people plus the 15 of so Fallen Legacy that were to combine into it to form Sigil. It was to be the servers "premier raiding force"

In reality it was what Tal said it was. Leo and Tal wanted to quit and it was an out for them. It was also decided upon just days prior to the first pig roast Xkhanx had, at least made known to those who ran day to day affairs. I didn't see it till two days before and changed my mind about going.

It was all about the cliques. You can not dispute that. It was FL - Seven Dreams + Visions - a few of their martyrs. Some from both lists, who were to be included quit or opted out for whatever reason.

The list was about as oil and water as you could get, and drove some of the great players away. I will never forget the night Omishi left the game because Stillnight decided it was time to play for one raid and then disappear for who knows how long after taking at the time the best mage sleeves in game.

Most of the Fallen Legacy guildbank "mysteriously disappeared". Mainly because I knew it would just be a down payment on someones house or car. AKA Cad or Yayger. It later made an appearance by funding the Conquest revival by buying the bazaar out of twink gear pretty much.

I think I lasted two weeks in Sigil before getting accused of playing DAoC with Conquest when I was actually laying in a hospital after having my appendix removed. I also laugh still to this day after seeing Shayde back in with the FL people weeks after that. Half truths and misinformation indeed. I think that is what really tore me up the most. The longer time went on, the more ex visions came back on board, almost as if it were planned that way.

In short, it was Fallen Legacy admitting defeat when they were probably on the verge of taking top spot away from Visions. People blamed it on summer lull, which was true, but it wasn't a FL specific problem. Could nobody have stepped up to take Tal and Leos place? Certainly. They were grooming Chode to do just that, unfortunately it was for Sigil.

I learned a lot about myself and how to lead people back then. I'm not bitter about it, which you can't really tell after reading the above. That's just how it happened, the truth from my perspective. I don't dwell on it when talking about it, but I will never forget. I was stupid, young and angry. I didn't give two shits, and still don't for some people. It was a bad outlook to have and I think those events lead up to actually maybe giving a shit what other people thought.

But nothing felt greater than crushing Sigil beneath Conquest heels while I was a member back in PoP. I won't apologize for that, and I am good friends with some who wore that Sigil tag at the time. It felt like righting a giant wrong made years prior.

Was that list the roster cut? Or was that a different time? I remember making the cut but I ended up quitting, cuz I didn't like that people were cut, then I regretted leaving, but Nokk assured me I wasn't missing out on much.

Then I dinked around for a while and eventually left for FFXI, thinking dragoons would be bad ass cuz of your hype. :P

Yeah, Givin. Chode was the heir apparent there. The only reason we stayed in Sigil as long as we did was in the hope we'd see that happen sooner rather than later, and not working with Cad as he did.

The other individual we knew had the leadership potential was Sola. Looking at it now, we were definitely right on that count. I definitely could've learned a thing a two with how Oryx was run.

The clique factor with the 7D folks had more to do with knowing if we excluded one or two, we'd lose them all. Again, it was honestly an absolute clusterfuck.

Oh, and yeah, fuck Feldarzin. Moron. I still have visions of that red sword in his hand during EVERY AoW fight :P

PS - Consider this my long overdue apology heh.

That split was shitty, interesting to hear Talis take on it though. I quit just before it happened and it wouldnt have mattered anyway, i was mostly a useless necro when you could only have so many dots on a single mob and no duplicates. I was a weak ass heal/dmf/twitch bitch nimloth did a great job at dominating/pioneering the necro space...

What? How'd they manage to destroy that? All instanced, or are you just sayin there's only one or two big guilds with tons of content that doesn't get cleared?

considering eq topped out at like 500k subscribers in it's hay-day i'd be surprised if it had more than 50,000 players nowadays. probably just not enough players and competing guilds / too many servers -- in addition to the instancing thing.

EQ subscriptions are still around 250K + granted a lot have multiple accounts, and yeah everything from Planes of Power has been pretty much instanced, also take into account 10 Years of content is a lot.

http://www.mmogchart.com/Chart1.html shows less than 250k but it's hard to see how much less. I doubt it's at 250k. Do you have any sources for that?
