I'm on 7th slowly levelling up a new character (Telomir). So, sadly, no "of Lanys T'Vyl" title for me :/

I know some others are there from Lanys. Sindaien and Rewben (ex-TSO old schoolers who quit around Luclin) are there under new characters as well, and in the same guild as I, and I've also bumped into Samwen, Tuluvian, and a few others in my travels. Aeralla still has her account activated, and I'm slowly convincing her to come back (though it's a tough fight!).
Not sure who else is around.

Aara - come to Combine. Screw 7th! :p

I'm Daenerys (enc) and Mitzada (rng) on Combine. I also have Austriana & Isendre there, but they're mostly retired. Nice to have a rezbot when needed, though.

We used to have quite a few Lanysites on Combine, when the server began. All of the ones I knew have left, however.

Actually its not that bad now, graphics may be slightly outdated but I dont think it is any worse the World of Warcraft, a lot of the updates they have done in the past 2 years have really made it fun to play.

Granted it still has a lot of the everquest annoyances but thats the charm that makes me want to play. That and exp soloing is nice and managable with my character, I dont have alot of a time to play so not finding a group is a good thing for myself.

Bah, had you said that 2 weeks ago, I might have.
But there's a select group of people I've gamed with over the past few years on 7th who are helping me along, not to mention some old friends who have also contributed, so I don't think it's a possibility.
Not so much due to me not wanting to leave a server as it is for them with their gazillion AAs.

Shame that Sony offers a server transfer service, but charges $50.00 for it, or a Lanys reunion would have been a lot easier.

Feel free to send cross-server tells to Anduril or Telomir on 7th though ;)

Don't need them, you can download the whole thing provided your account is active.

My account expires on August 10. I may renew it, I may not renew it. Although I must admit that levelling up a ranger is relatively fun. I dinged 30, killed 2 mobs in 3-4 minutes and dinged 31. I about fell out of my chair laughing so hard when that happened. I remember spending days on Cicely going through lvl 30 when it was a "hell" level... and my alt ranger gets it in 3-4 minutes by killing 2 mobs. Still funny :)

Yeah the revamp of Experience 1 to 70 has been fixed and it has been nice. Only takes a hour or so now per level at 70+

Yep. Xp is faster these days, not to mention additions such as the veteran reward useable once a day that gives double xp for 30min.
Could you imagine having that option back in the Seb AoE groups? :p

As an example of speed, I re-rolled a Ranger and started fresh about 2-3 weeks ago. He's 5% xp shy of 62 already, surpassing Aaramis who I played for several YEARS.
Total /played time showing on the new char is 1 day, 19 hours, 18 minutes.

Hell, on my new bard, I played for an hour lastnight in one of the hotzones (Blightfire). Went from 19 to 22. In one hour, using the vet reward double xp. And without a PL or anything.
It's nuts :)

Vet Reward Double EXP plus a hot zone...

I went from 73 to 74 in 38min.

My account expired a few days ago. Probably for the millionth time heh. Got to take care of some things IRL- job search, finances, etc etc. Maybe will come back, maybe not... who knows on these addictions :) If this is it, then I had a good run with the game. Definitely was the most played game I have ever played in my life, both past/present and most likely future.

Sad, I can see the economic benefit in that. It doesn't pay for them to keep designing mid-level anything. The quicker they can push people into top levels, the easier game design becomes.

Yep, and it looks like that's exactly what they've done.
Taking a quick look at an expansion / zone / level comparison chart :
http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/zlvlchart.html

It becomes obvious that from Gates of Discord and onwards, the majority of material has been for the high-level crowd.

Flip side, of course, is you get a lot of people who have soloed their way to 50+ in 2 weeks and have no clue about any of the dynamics of grouping or raiding, or who have underlevelled skills, missing spells, etc. Just using Ranger as an example, I see a lot of Rangers these days that don't have epic 1.0, whereas back when I gamed it was a *must* for solo as you needed to land that slow to survive.
Nowadays they just pop a haste potion, toss on their +3000 hps worth of jewelry, pull out their swords, and go to town. With downtime adjustments, it's not an issue to regen to full in a minute or 2.
But in terms of tactics? A lot have been forgotten, it seems.

There's a reason for them developing high end content over low, and it's not just economics.

It's the fact that most people playing EQ now have been for almost a decade, and tend to be high level characters. There's not many new faces coming in to EQ1.

Cuc, good to see you still hanging around. It's hard to believe the EQ1 is still holding on so well to people. This is a good thing but I use to be so frustrated how everything was spread out and my old favorite zones being empty.

Anyway, hope to run into you sometime, somewhere. I think the only way to could ever play EQ again would be the EQClassic idea. However, the new expansion actually looks more appealing than EQ2's.

BTW... Muli is owned by a friend of mine now. Don't know if he even plays him. So, if he's out and about, it's not me.

Take care,
Muli

Is there a way to get to Riwwi that isn't as ridiculous as it seems on paper? Why would a level 60 hot zone be so far away?

Can get a druid port or wizard TL to Barindu, which is adjacent to Riwwi. Otherwise, it's a pain in the rear to run there.

Riwwi mobs are horribly nasty, by the way. But I'm sure you've discovered that already ;)

PS - patch today, so there's a good chance the hotzones are changing.
New 60+ hotzones, if Allakazham is correct, will be :
- Plane of Storms (55+ to enter)
- Sunderock Springs
- Riftseeker's Sanctum (69+ to enter)

Plane of storms giants are not on Agnarr's faction list by killing giants you actually get better faction with Karana.

I've given thought to coming back, but I think I've forgotten more about the game than I remember. And being a level 65 noob just seems kind of weird.

I almost think that if I did, it would be worth it to start over, use Bearne's plat to twink myself, and relearn the game. I always thought a wizard or a shaman would be fun. Or maybe a class with tracking.

^^ Yep, and twinkage is so much easier these days.
Elaborate defiant, gnollish chain/leather gear, dwerium trio jewelry, and various weapons can all be purchased fairly cheaply and get you caught up quickly.

The rest you can get for yourself with some Blackburrow or Dragonscale Hills hunting groups :)

But if anyone is concerned about starting over, I wouldn't be. Honestly.
I've been back in EQ for what... just over a month now?
And I already have a 49 Warrior, 62 Ranger, and 62 Bard. Started from scratch, with minor twinkage/xp help from friends.
Xp flies now. It's insane.

At the wall or castle? Charmed mephits are fun.

Some things are green in fire now though ;/

You can grab a mephit from the zone and drag it with you. I don't think there are any close to the second castle but I never spend anytime outside it.

PoFire is a joke now. I duo'ed with Buvan and all he did was just pull mobs to my pet in castle 2. I think at one point I had about 11 mobs on my pet... and it never once got to enrage status. They have done a crapton of good to magician pets, so much so that half the time I get thrown into a pick up group the pet can tank far better than the player.

I think my air pet, with full raid buffs, can get close to like 28k hp. It also has a defensive spell that lasts for 45 minutes, another AA defensive that lasts for 10 minutes that stacks, and it procs a rune that lasts for like 2-3 hits. Granted both defensive stuff have a limit as to how much dmg it can absorb before it fades, but still...

I think my record so far has been 23 mobs in Sebilis. I just wanted to see how much I could do. And I threw one 10k instant heal on pet and that was all it needed. Love the pets now :)

hit the doldrums at 61, cancelled for now. will likely pick it up next time i get the itch in a couple months

have an expensive couple of months coming up and don't really need the bill for something i'm not going to use much, plus it's my last month with my roommate and i might as well spend less time killing fire beetles or whatever the hell.
