I have been playing the free play, and, this is the last few patch messages for those of you who no longer play, just to give you an idea what is up.

*** Highlights ***

- Spells and procs will no longer reset swing timers for any class, PC or NPC.

*** NPC ***

- Improved an issue that was causing poor performance in outdoor zones.
- Fixed an issue that was causing poor performance when switching between background and foreground modes.

*** Previously Updated ***

- Laiyken should once again allow you in to Crystallos if you're on the proper step of his quest. If you were refused access before, hailing him again should allow you to enter the zone.
- Laiyken will no longer consume your Oil-Covered Crystal if you are not yet at the correct point of his quest.
- The Kirkoten Minders will now update the Combat task given by Fenden Helter for the Brownie Rebels.
- Beltron in Frostcrypt will once again take damage from Banish Shadows procs.

*** Hotfix ***

- Laiyken should once again allow you in to Crystallos if you're on the proper step of his quest. If you were refused access before, hailing him again should allow you to enter the zone.
- Laiyken will no longer consume your Oil-Covered Crystal if you are not yet at the correct point of his quest.
- The Kirkoten Minders will now update the Combat task given by Fenden Helter for the Brownie Rebels.
- Beltron in Frostcrypt will once again take damage from Banish Shadows procs.

- The EverQuest Team

7/09/2008

*** Highlights ***

- A series of quests have been created within and around the Secrets of Faydwer expansion. See Fenden Helter in the Ladies of the Light tower for more information. These tasks include various Secrets of Faydwer faction rewards as well as a new currency that can be used to purchase items from Fenden.

- The spell information window has been changed. For buffs that are on you or your pet, you will be able to see the name of the caster, the full duration of the spell, the level required to cast the spell, the skill required to cast the spell, the mana cost of the spell, and the spell description. Non existing buff based spells will display the total duration of the spell in a new format, hours, minutes, and seconds.

- New visual indicators have been added to the buff window icons, and short duration buff window icons. Additionally, the spell counter information has been moved to facilitate the visual display of the buff timer on the respective buff icon. There have been four pieces of visual information added to the buff icons. This includes a visual indicator to show each of four possible pieces of information. The new pieces of information are Buff Timer, Buff Counters, Song Timer, and Song Counters.

- With the description changes added, all relevant counter information for BARD songs, all short duration effects, and regular buffs in either the spell window buff icon or short duration buff icon respectively will also be displayed.

- The buff icon will now display the time remaining in the form of hours (h), minutes (m), or seconds (s) whichever is greater. This significantly reduces the amount physical space used on the icon to print out the remaining time, in effect showing more of the buff or short duration buff icon to the player.

- Several NPCS in the Barren Coast, The Buried Sea, Atiiki, Katta Castrum, and Goru'kar Mesa have been lowered in difficulty to help facilitate easier soloing for many players. These NPCs will have a special consider message to indicate they are easier than your average NPC.

*** Returning Players ***

- If you're returning to the game following a break, be sure to visit the Scholars in the northeast portion of the Plane of Knowledge. They can help guide you through the many changes to the land of Norrath over the years.

*** Items ***

- Fixed some typographical errors in a few instruction manuals.
- Ornament Mutation Tools are now available for purchase from Magus Alaria in the Guild Lobby. They can be used to permanently change Ornament items into single use Ornamentation containers.
- Secrets of Faydwer monk armor will now have the special monk appearance. Armor that monks share with other classes was unchanged.
- Added Battlerager's Strength to SoF Raid Tier 3 and 4 Berserker Class Gloves.
- Changed the colors on the Bridles of the Commanded and Ferocious Ferans to match the image on their cards.

*** Quests & Events ***

- A series of quests have been created within and around the Secrets of Faydwer expansion. See Fenden Helter in the Ladies of the Light tower for more information. These tasks include various Secrets of Faydwer faction rewards as well as a new currency that can be used to purchase items from Fenden.
- The bears in Wulfnor the Gladiator's event in Frostcrypt will once again look like bears.
- Eron in the Dragonscale Hills has figured a slightly better method for making spools of energized brownie hair. You can now make it if the denizens of the zone are nearby. It still requires that you be by the specific energy charge within the main power room, and not any of the auxiliary power rooms. Be aware that being in the energy charge is painful and not compatible with invisibility or stealth. This new method will also not work if you are lying down. You will not need to go back to him to get the new method, as he has communicated it to everyone.

*** NPC ***

- Brinda's assistant, Findlewill, has returned from a restful vacation and can now be found in the Mansion.
- Several golems have had their body type switched to Construct.
- Fixed several minor text errors on various NPCs.

*** Spells ***

- Made a change to all spells and abilities that use Fade-like functionality to no longer kill your pets, auras and familiars when the Fade-like ability is used.
- Fixed an issue causing negative focus effects to not function correctly (sorry!)
- With the changes made for displaying the spell decriptions, there may be some NPC spells that display incorrect data. We will be adjusting these descriptions at a later time. The description shoud not affect gameplay.
- The shadowknight Decrepit Skin line, paladin Ward of Tunare spell line, and druid Skin of the Reptitle spell line have been adjusted.- Upon death, Divine Arbitration should no longer split the influence to the group members.
- Shaman spell Ancestral Intervention and the druid spell Survival of the Fittest should be able to produce a crit again.

*** Tradeskills ***

- NPC pricing of powersources have been altered.

*** Tasks ***

- Fixed one of the chests in the Uncovered Treasure task that was spawning under the world.
- Fixed various issues in the new Secrets of Faydwer tasks that start with Fenden Helter in Dragonscale Hills.

*** AA ***

- Changes have been made to the Harm Touch ability for Shadow Knights. The Ranks of Harm Touch that are purchased via AA points (and not automatically granted) will now have an immediate amount of damage as well as a Damage Over Time component. The Damage Over Time component is in addition to the damage that Harm Touch previously did. The Damage Over Time will scale along with the maximum value of the instant damage for each rank.
- Increased the duration of Pact of the Wurine AA.
- A number of AA lines that had a previously meaningless recast delay have been changed to have no recast delay. This is to address larger-than-intended returns on Heal Amount mods being applied due to how the calculations for those spells work. The AA lines changed include: Act of Valor, Hand of Piety, Lay on Hands, Mend Companion, Rejuvenate Companion, Replenish Companion, and Touch of the Divine.

*** Zones ***

- We've adjusted the fog settings in all zones to allow for better visibility.
- Adjusted pathing around the Goblin huts in the Buried Sea.

*** Miscellaneous ***

- More fixes for corpse looting problems when using /hidecorpse looted.
- Added the Background FPS slider to the Options->Display window. Allows setting the frame rate for the EQ window when it is not the foreground window. Sliding all the way to the left (the default) will use "Min. CPU" mode. Increasing this above "Min. CPU" can improve auto-follow behavior when the client is not in the foreground.
- 'alpha' and 'ralpha' added to /tracksort command.
- Added new SoF stats to the bazaar search options.
- Fixed a problem causing a client disconnect when consuming or using the last item in a stack.
- Made an optimization that will slightly improve lag in loping plains. This is not a full fix.
- Changed the way CPU affinity assignment works so that when you have multiple clients running and exit one and restart it, you still get correct distribution of CPU assignment. Previously, this could cause both clients to be assigned to the same CPU.

*** User interface ***

- Moved the Max FPS and Max background FPS sliders to the advanced display options window.

A good number here do not play any more, and probably do not even look at the EQ1 section we have. Back int he day, posting of the Patch message was a big deal. I was just doing it for old times sake since I started to play again.

I enjoyed reading through it!

wtf with making fog less foggy though... I remember my first week playing EQ wandering around in the dark fog of Erudin Forest, getting completely lost and thinking this game was awesome! I also remember a short time where I worried that the lightning could actually hurt me :p.

There is lightning in WoW too...I forget the zone name, but the first zone in TBC, where lightning hit the ground, I always tried to get hit by it (it seemed randomish). I was really disappointed when I finally caught one and it did nothing. :(

The same could be said about 90% of the posts on these boards :)

Anyways, it's weird seeing the changes in EQ between PoP era and now.
I'm trying the Living Legacy out for shits and giggles as some friends are there too, and we wanted to run around and train everything in Western Wastes one last time.

Movement, combat, everything essentially, is so foreign to me now. It's bizarre.

Oh, and I managed to snare myself and die lastnight.
I rock.

*edit*
Oh, and it took me 3 casts of Flame Lick to realize I didn't have a damn beetle eye. Bloody hell, I had forgotten all about that.

Yeah, I let mine run overnight Mira. Took about 10 hrs total. Shiiii.

Must say, levelling these days is a wee bit easier.
My Ranger (Aaramis) is long gone (long story), so had to make a new char, which worked out well as I'm basically relearning the game again.

With minor twinkage from a friend (haste item, a 14/24 sword, some +HP rings, and some heal potions) I basically soloed from level 1 to 40 in 10 hours.
Insane.

And now I'm about to work on the level 45 armor quests from one of the Serpent's Spine areas. +50HP/MP on most of the items.
Crazy.

PS - saw some familiar guildnames on Seventh Hammer this weekend.
Nice to see some names, like Fold of the Black Talon, are still around.

I spent about 30 minutes in PoK, what a ghost town up there. Is there a new place where everyone hangs out? I remember hitting MGB and usually buffing a few hundred people at a time in PoK.

I didn't even see a single KEI request.

I did see a wow gold farming spamming his webshit. I put him on ignore after sending him a PM to fuck off and die then used the report feature. Watch me get a warning for cussing or something. :?

Yep. Guild lobby is the place to "hang out" these days (just south of bazaar entrance in PoK). Think I read somewhere that buffs don't fade/expire in the lobby, hence why people hang out there.
There's also a corpse summoner NPC in there that sees a lot of business (summon cost varies by level), so clerics tend to hang out giving rezzes as well.

Completely different game for me now compared to when I left (start to mid-PoP expansion).

I am getting a lot of the new Lower Guk Armor, but, I still have some of my old Hall Of Testing Quest armor. When I linked it, people asked me why I was wearing THAT JUNK.... A few of us in the guild I joined started talking about how easy they had it now, that "Back in my day we had to get a Necro to help you do CR"..etc... Hehe.. good times.

Very nostalgic. I actually recalled the excitement of reading the updates and hoping to find something that would, earlier repair and later enhance rangers.

Well, for anyone curious who's thinking about trying out EQ for shits and giggles, the xp is definitely much faster these days with hotzones, twinkage, and the ability to PL via grouping (i.e. level 53 can get xp with a level 80, I discovered yesterday).

Ranger, level 1 to 56. /played = 1 day. Some decent twinkage courtesy of old friends, and some PLing as well (/salute Tulu, Rewben, Sindaien).
http://eqplayers.station.sony.com/chara ... 5396409342

Part of me is disgusted with the speed and ease with which I made it to that level.
But another part of me is really happy I didn't have to go through the "old school" stuff again, such as farming for blackened iron chain; questing for shortsword of morin; etc.

PS - my casting skills are borked. Going to have to spend a day or 3 sitting in PoK working them up :/

My ranger (lvl 70) has shitty conjuration. I can't cast a dot to save my life. Mostly because I leveled so fast (from 1-65 at least...after that I slowed down lots :p) - and I was barely powerleveled. (I was pretty much PL'd from 59-62, and I used a friend's shaman some in my mid 30s, but the rest of it was just regular leveling. I boxed a chanter, and a friend leveled his cleric.)

/bite Austy. How are ya?
You on Seventh?

Regarding spells, that's the only downside, really.
Hell, back in the day on Aara I remember having to cast "Dance of the Fireflies" a couple billion times to get that skill up to speed. And I certainly wasn't levelling anywhere close to the speed I am now.

Speaking of "old-school" memories and such, I've noticed the people nowadays seem to take 20/20 weapons and 10k hps for granted, and seem to forget basic tactics. Hell, I saw a Ranger in the Ranger forums yesterday whining because they couldn't solo in a level 50+ hotzone at level 54.
Me - "Do you have Earthcaller? That slow proc is a lifesaver"
Her - "No"
Me - "Are you casting DoTs / nukes?"
Her - "No, casting skill isn't levelled."
Me - "Do you root when low on life, back up, and then heal yourself?"
Her - "No. Hmm, that's a good idea."

/sigh :p

Old School a Ranger had to learn how to survive.

Dance of Fireflies is great for fixing your conjurgation, just attach it to a move key or something like you did with forage.

I noticed my ranger at level 69 was having problems casting when I logged him in. 8)

*hug Aara*

I'm on The Combine, but both of my accts are temporarily canceled. I'll probably be able to renew in about 3 weeks, but I had a *coughs* hefty speeding ticket *coughs*, and paying for it meant I had to cut back on a few things - Netflix and EQ mainly. I'll be back, soon, though, either on Daenerys (my enchanter) or Mitzada (my ranger).

That must of been quite the speed ticket.

No shit. Normally I'd insert a snarky comment about how hard up you have to be to cancel EQ and Netflix to afford something but I've been in the same boat lately.

Sucky, I know how it feels now.

*shrugs* I just graduated from college, I don't have a full-time job yet (print journalism is the wrong career choice for today's world, it seems...), and I just began my part-time job (working for my dad). I haven't been paid yet for it (I get paid Friday), but I have had to put my son in camp so I could work (borrowing the money from my mother until I get paid).

So $180 speeding ticket, camp costing ~$110/week and no paycheck yet. And on top of it all, I didn't receive my final student loan check because I took three hours instead of six (because I only needed three to graduate, and no one told me I wouldn't get my loan until after classes began). The loan was supposed to last me for the summer, allowing me time to get a job and cover emergency costs.

So, yeah, my speeding ticket effectively cut me off from anything that isn't a necessity, which included EQ and Netflix. ;)

We have 70-75 running in Blackburrow on The Combine. (Of course, we don't have any level 80s at all, anyway...)

So if you have peeps who <3 you, you could go to BB!

80 to run in Black Burrow? When did that change? I spent many days in there as a young Barbarian.

It's a temporary zone overhaul.

Lower guk is the same - for a short time it's been turned into a 70+ zone.
All the old named are now 80+, and dropping "darkened" versions of their previous items which, suffice to say, are a wee bit improved.

eg. Darkened FBSS : http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=75706

*edit*
For comparison, here's one the overhauled Brewer drops:
http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=75861

Sick, aren't they?

How do these guys compare in terms of difficulty to the named in Hills of Shade or Fortress?

I dont play much :P

Plus i raid maybe once a month, and with like 4 other people, boxing about 12 chars lol... So we dont hit any of the major encounters. I dont have many augs or gear that are really spectacular. I just spend most of my time 4boxing in HoS to try and catch up xp and gear wise.

Edit: I just looked, you got me beat by 500hp/mana, lol... My magelo seems outdated... Plus you have 100 more AAs than i do (and a 'little' more /played time :P )

Im surprised im not *more* behind... Man i remember having about 2400-2500hp for the longest time. Its only since SoF came out i jumped so drastically...

Well I hit BB / Lguk really fast when I found out about those zones. I was aroudn 6800 HP when I came back and in about three week up to 8600.

Also what the fuck is up with Magelo I can't get it to update at all so im using EQplayers.com stuff for now. Though i do like the sig thing they provide.

Sometimes i have to use firefox to get magelo to work, or sometime i have to use IE...

I think theres something funky with their java implementation. Like for instance, sometimes i try and go to their homepage and it just tries to download what looks to be a java file... Re-navigating with the different browser fixes it for me typically...

Who knows!

I havent been on EQ since June 30, so im not sure if they implemented the BB and LGuk changes since then...

Ah, I would...but I'm already dreadfully behind even for the Progression server - much less a regular server. ;) On top of that, I have the benefit of being in a raid guild that doesn't have required raiding (I joined it when it was a "family guild that raids," much like MW). I don't know where I'd be able to find a guild that I can do Demi, and raid leaders be OK with me bringing anything - a ranger, cleric, wizard or chanter depending upon my mood... or just not show up for weeks at a time. :p

When our server becomes "normal," you should join me there!

Dont worry I am in a dead guild, only the guild leader and his bot army are active... its nice I can use the guild tribute to power level myself.
