I hope all of the enchanters playing on lanys t'vyl make good use of this guide.<

What is important to being a good enchanter? This is a stupid question but the most important thing is knowing how your spells work and when to use them.<

Probably the most important spells you have are the dispell magic line of spells. They are really great because you can cast them on your allies as well as your enemies and there's not many good spells like that besides the awesome memory blur line. You can also cast lull and bind sight on both enemies and allies but both spells are pretty useless because of bards and eqsonyverant fucking up the graphics engine. Technically you can also cast night's dark terror and the crappy imp buff and boon of the garou on enemies but only after they're dead so that their corpses change and confuse people but that's not particularly useful either. This is about dispell spells though and the premiere spell in this line is Recant Magic which enchanters can learn at the level 54. This spell will remove up to 4 magic effects on your enemies or allies and this can prove to be a vital part of everquest fighting. But you can't just go around casting it on everything or it can create chaos and have an adverse effect on you and your friends activities. <

First you have to consider when to cast it, and you can only cast it on npcs or people in your group so don't go trying to cast it on random player characters or people in your raid or whatever because it doesn't work trust me. Your first priority should be to use dispell to remove harmful magical effects from your allies, which means you need to be able to tell who your enemies are and what spells they might cast on your friends. We'll start with the the enchanters two biggest enemies, bards and shamans. <

Bards are horrible and probably the bane of every enchanters existance due to their songs effecting a large number of people at once and renewing every 6 seconds so that it's very hard to keep their harmful effects off of your groupmates. If you try to remove the bards harmful magical effects from your friends with dispell then you're going to be hardpressed to defeat them so your best bet is probably just to avoid them and tell your friends about how sucky and useless they are because you are better at everything they do and they just try and use their crappy versions of your spells to look cool and they steal your cool illusion ability and fading memories aa. If you do have to group with them you can try accidentally dispelling all their hit point buffs in the middle of a fight and cast blanket of forgetfulness which makes enemy monsters forget how mad they are at you and also gives the monster a blanket so that they leave you alone and attack the bard that is casting some lame spells on you all the time which you don't need and blink and piss you off and the monsters kill the bard for you because at least you gave them a blanket.<

Shamans are a much weaker foe but can still be pretty annoying, you shouldn't have a hard time convincing your friends to avoid them because no one really likes them anyway. If they do join a group with you then have your dispell spell ready because there are some great ways to use it to fight shamans. First off shamans like to cast spells that sacrifice their hitpoints to gain mana, this is dumb because you're there and can cast great mana regen spells so if they do that then just be ready to dispell their lame heal over time spell they use to recover their health afterwards and they end up being angry and losing more mana than if they just trusted in your fantastic mana regen spells. One of their heal over time spells can also be of great detriment to your party as anyone they cast it on becomes ensnared and has a slowed attack speed. Even though they have gotten upgrades to this spell over time they still might use the old version because they are stupid and lazy so be sure to dispell it from your group members if you think the shaman might be casting it on them. Another one of the shamans nefarious spells is the focus line which doesn't stack with your shield of magic line and gives crappy bonuses to stuff like agi and dex which are useless and even though they might try and convince your group members with talk about how dex works the same as int or wis when you're doing fletchery just ingore their bs and dispell it from your teammates if you think the shaman cast it on them. You can also make sure to cast memory blur on mobs right after you mes them so that when the shaman casts slow and malo on the mob it will only remember the shaman and try to kill it when it wakes up, the shaman might also try to use a heal over time spell when that happens so make sure to dispell it.<

Now that you know how to fight bards and shamans you should move on to learning how to use dispell to remove harmful effects from others sources that might hurt your groupmates. Oftentimes enemy monsters you're facing will cast spells like root or snare or fear or fear2 or torrent of hate spells on your group to stop them from being effective. You can easily use dispell and make the monsters efforts futile and remove all their negative effects from your friends. You might inadvertently remove some of your friends buffs when you do this but it's much safer than them being crippled and on the verge of death due to the enemies spells. If they lose your high level mana and haste spells when you do this then just cast
eeze and augment on them since they're just going to be losing them all the time anyways and it's not effecient for you to cast your high mana cost spells all the time. If they start giving you sass and telling you not to dispell them or cast better spells then just use project illusion to turn them into a vah shir so they look retarded and everyone thinks they're a fool and they are too ashamed to talk to you. If they click it off then just continue to recast it on them, if they put up their own illusion you can dispell it easily. <

Now on to the next use of dispell, casting it on enemy monsters to remove any buffs they might have. This is probably the most complicated aspect of dispell and requires a fair amount of expertise. To start with you have to identify which monsters will cast beneficial spells. You can usually identify magic using monsters by seeing if they have arms since you need arms to do magic and pretty much any creature with arms can cast magic so they're a good target to dispell. Sometimes monsters won't have arms but they can still use magic because it's part of their nature and you can usually identifty these types because they have
ight colors that aren't normal or they have a magic sounding name, once you've identified these types it's important to cast dispell magic immediately and warn your group that they can do magic and dispell your group members in case the monster cast some harmful magic while you were identifying it. Also you might find monsters that can't do magic but if they are near some monsters than can do magic then you should try to dispell them anyways because magic user enemies cast magic on anyone they see. <

A more specialized part of dealing with enemy magic users is determining whether or not the enemy is using damage shields so that anyone who attacks them takes damage, the best way to do this is use a weapon to attack the enemy and see if you take damage. If you determined that an enemy has a damage shield then you should realize that the enemy probably will just cast it again right after you dispell it so you need to help your group out by dispelling anyone you cast a haste spell on to prevent them from taking extra damage due to their increased attack speed. <

Probably the final use of dispell is to cast it it on a monster a while after it dies so that any effects your group put on it wear off and gives them a message which confuses your groupmates because that doesn't usually happen. I can't think of any other uses for dispell but if you can then that's fine and I won't blame you for it.

.... I have been forbidden to use dispells! The raid leaders get miffed when I am bored when gathering for raids, and find it funny to dispell grp mates when they just got their buffs. (clerics were'nt too happy with me either for having to do rebuffs)
