I worked at a home for autistic adults when I was in college. In the time I was there, I remember very clearly the day that I had an experience with one of them and his trucks (he collected tonka toys, matchbook, any kind of truck you could think of) that suddenly slammed home to me that yes, he was heavily autistic, but there was a person inside of there that was trying to communicate to me. I never really looked at autistic people the same again.

This video is amazing. Not just that this girl found a way out, or that her parents never gave up on her, but because it has completely changed her life now. I've been reading her blog and she's now taking regular high school classes (english for now) and starting to grab onto the dream she's always had but couldn't have because she was locked in the hell that was her body/brain.

Figured I'd share. I think this is truly awe inspiring. And like my incident with the one guy and his trucks, it may change how people look at autistic individuals in the future.

Great story. I passed this on to one of my friends who's youngest has been diagnosed with Autism. I think he will like it.

Pretty incredible story.

Reminiscent of the movie "Awakenings".

It's amazing that there seems to be a fully aware intelligent person locked up in there. It certainly changed my perspective.

That is crazy, it scares me to think there are other out there that never had their chance to be heard and/or acknowledged.

I shared the email with a friend who has an autistic child. One of the most interesting and inspiring things I've seen in a long time. Thanks.
