Browsing for stuff to read on my kindle I came across a novel called, Space Viking, it was 2 bucks so I picked it up. Since then I grabbed the complete works by H. Beam Piper for another 2 bucks, but are they really complete if they were missing Space Viking?

I am nearly done tearing through all his story's, this is a treasure for anyone who is a sci-fi fan, its a bit dated, seems most of the story's are pre-60's but it is sure good stuff.

Without my kindle I am sure I would never of read any of his work.

Mir, I hate to tell you... but all of H. Beam Piper's works are on Project Gutenberg. Including Space Viking.

Oh, btw. OMG SOMEONE ELSE READS H. BEAM PIPER ON LANYS? SQUEEEE!

-ahem-

That is all.

Actually, I found Space Viking in the list of the completed works, so its all there.

this was a good author, I rank him right up there with Piers Anthony, Robert A. Heinlein, Robert Jordan and Jack L Chalker to name a few of my favorites for sci fi.

Robert Jordan is poop. He started out brilliantly and became near unreadable.

H. Beam reminds me of a grouchy, chain-smoking, drunken Heinlein. Not that there's anything wrong with that. His Fuzzy series parallels real-world political issues in the guise of semi-sentient lifeforms. Space Viking is an excellent book about the weight of rulership.
I used to read Piers before his works became justifications for his pederacy. And putting his own daughter's real-world address in a book? Not cool.
Jordan is gone, but I did love the first three WoT books, and some of his Conan work. I'll give the WoT series another go when the final book is written, and not before.
I worship Heinlein. Or close to it. Despite his lecherous optimisim, his insight into mankind's relationship with itself is crystal clear.
Hm. Now that I think about it, if Phillip K. Dick hadn't dropped so much acid, and had a better grasp on history, he might have been like H. Beam Piper.

Alright, now those are endorsements I can get behind! I'll check HBP out.

BTW, I don't mind the acid-etched texture of a lot of PKD's stuff - it gives an edge to all his questions about the nature of perception and reality. But man, the dedication at the end of A Scanner Darkly is fucking wrenching.

I enjoy PKD's writing, and the surreal mist that separates the characters from the audience. But yes, he was one seriously messed up man.

Well I finished reading all the H Beam Piper that was in that collection on my kindle, 32 stories in all, novels to short stories, had one excellent detective story and a real neat civil war story on Mosbys Rangers, glad I found this little nugget of literature.
