I'm no graphic designer. But even to my untrained eye, it is obvious that there are no redeeming qualities to Bing's logo; it is literally pure (i.e., 100%) shit. It drives me away from the site. If I thought for a moment I might use Bing on a regular basis, I would be campaigning on an "At least change it to a 2G1C gif" Facebook page - and pronto.

Who is responsible for this? My interest is earnest. How is this the product of the same company that invested $45 million dollars into a 4-note startup noise? Is the ugliness some sort of cunningly-conceived marketing stunt to attract (then repulse) eyeballs? Maybe it projects some sort of subconscious message, the encoding for which necessitates obese letters?

Please, help me understand. Why?

I like Bing. I use it in place of Google now. Who gives a fuck about a logo? /shrug

I am not sure about the logo - but the look of Bing completely repels me. It looks like it was 5th place in a high school web design class.

As for the quality of the search, I cannot comment because I can't get past the look of the awful site.

I see no reason to give it a try, I always find what I'm looking for with Google.

google kind of looked like crap back in the day too.. how could a search site be reputable without the use of the <blink> tag?!

I don't see any reason to try it either.. google gets it done for me.

I'm also curious as to why you'd start using Bing over Google.

I like the image/video search much better on Bing and I haven't exactly had any trouble finding what I was looking for when doing normal searches. It's not like I do Bing (Google) searches every day, so I figured why not support the new guy? No complaints so far.

If you haven't checked it out too Bing Cashback is great, i've gotten probably over 200 bucks back from it so far and it's free to sign up.

People who want to get their data out of google's hands are flocking to Bing right now, since it doesn't tie in search history to your google account.

Competition is good. Bing is the first semi-viable competitor for Google... well, ever. Good for them.

Yeah it's much better to give out that data to Microsoft /nod... I wouldn't be suprised spam based on your products searches start to get around people hotmail filters somehow.

bing has no current tie into a live account. if you're logged in to gmail when you do a google search, your search history is tied into that account.

besides, who uses hotmail?

Isn't your Xbox Live account linked to Hotmail?

eh.

I meant that bing isn't tied into your passport account (the all in one tie) like google is.

I haven't really woken up yet, sorry ;p

Even so, how much does it take to make those matches and record that information on the backend...

Post subject:  Re: Bing logo

It doesn't.

Easy solution? Don't use a search engine by the same company that hosts your email account.

I'm not sure what problem that solves.

Their dumb advertisements are enough to turn anyone off from it.

First there's the, "It's not a search engine, it's a decision engine"...wtf does that even mean? I go there, I type in something, wow I get a list of links just like Google would have given me. Amazing decision you helped me make, Bing!

And their dumb "search overload" ads where the people are saying random keyword phrases and stuff...but if you go to Bing and type in "pie" what happens? Way more stupid random clutter than Google right at the top:

"Math pie
pie recipies
math symbol pie
pie names
pier 1
Pi
Pier 1 imports
Pierce college"

Ugh. Granted, Google has the "related searches" stuff too, but it's nicely tucked away.

Lets play scavenger hunt, Neesha! See if you can find the exact list of stuff on the Bing page that I listed!

Also, I like how the results at the top on Google are actually about pie. On Bing you get Proto-indo-european language, Precision Interface Electronics, S.t Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport, Pier 1 Imports, Pierce College, and Math Pie all thrown at you first.

Well the Bing search listed there certainly looks more interesting than regular pie. I felt like I actually learned something. Cue the horror music.

Not even going to argue the point. Use what you want. If you want to, you can find faults with either one of them, based on which you prefer.

Yeah, the sad part is that whoever got lucky enough to land the job of typing the letters b-i-n-g out in lowercase, squashing it a bit in illustrator and coloring the dot probably got paid $2 million.
