I watched my first Girls Gone Wild video last weekend. Yeah, I'm behind the times. Here is what struck me as interesting - these girls are standing around in front of a bunch of guys, and before they flash, they tell the guys not to look.

Dunno, that strikes me as hilarious.

Anyway, it was interesting. Not sure if I'm for or against it - getting chicks drunk and taking pictures of them with their clothes off... do any of these chicks get paid?

I've never cared enough to buy a GGW video and too damned lazy to download one, dunno.

I've never understood "funny" porn. I'm not watching porn for the laughs. I'm watching it for entirely different reasons. Bangbus always sucked, because it tried too hard to make the guys with the cameras look cool.

My understanding is they are not paid but plied with alcohol (surprise?) and paraphernalia (t-shirts, hats, etc). It's a sad fact that you really don't have to pay people to do that stuff. I've seen a few minutes of one of those videos. It's not nearly as exciting as some may think. More depressing really, but maybe I'm more easily depressed.

Yea, I'd say you're too easily depressed if watching a bunch of hot barely-legal chicks getting it on with each other depresses you.

I guess I'm put off by skank. Or maybe my skank-o-meter is too sensitive. In any case, that's all I can think the whole time.

What I really dislike about it as a woman is that ...well look it's one thing to flash yourself under a variety of circumstances. And yes, I flashed my tits back in the day when I was in my teens and early 20s. It's also understandable that if you do so in a highly public place someone might take some pictures...you'd imagine just for themselves mostly. Sure they may show it to people, but again it's a relatively limited audience. It's all harmless fun.

It absolutely ruins it when you have to worry now about that shit being on a video ala GGW, and of course a bit after that the internet. Though even as an internet thing, it would probably have a lesser audience.

Honestly it completely killed my desire to go to Mardi Gras back in the day. There's simply no way I'd want to go and have a good time if my antics could potentially haunt me because some douchebag with a camera tries to make a buck off it.

We ALL have done stupid shit at various times, I really dislike the exploitation of it.

It's not like there's some mystery about what girls gone wild is and what they do.

I swear to God if I saw my daughter on one of those damn things, I don't care if she signed a consent form, I'd kill the fuckers then send her to a convent.

On a related note, GGW is so dumb. Porn is free on the Internet, people who fail to understand this basic concept should just die.

Back when I was in the Navy in the early 90's, I was in the Ship Yard in Portsmouth, NH on my submarine. I would go down to Groton, CT, at the sub base because I had a lot of people I knew out there. (Only a 3 hour drive.)

On the trip there, I would occasionally drop by this one strip club in Mass on the CT Border cuz it was a good half way stop.

I was there one day, and this pretty young girl was on stage. Everything was fine until a group of older guys came in and she saw them, got this horrified look on her face and screamed and ran off the stage. One of the guys saw here and yelled WTF are YOU doing here.

Daddy was not happy.

Later I found out that she lived and went to school in Boston, and her family lived there to. She would drive all the way down to this club because no one knew her, and she could make some good money.

Dad and his buddies wanted to go check out some boobies, but, did not want to be local where someone might know him and get caught, so, they made a road trip.

Good times for all!

Man, you're a refined guy. I wish I had your class. When I see a hot 18 year old getting naked, all I can think about is that I would like to climb aboard before the train leaves the station.

For fear of being too much of a hippie, I am starting to miss our ever-shrinking privacy. I think it's funny that when you think of the Internet in the 90s, you thought of anonymity. Now, the Internet has virtually eliminated all anonymity.

Just think, over the next several years there are going to be major political candidates ruined because there was a picture of him/her smoking pot, flashing, doing something stupid.

It's already jumping up to bite people. A teacher in my area was fired because some 19 year-old moron posted pictures of a party at the teacher's house. The kids were graduated, but they were under 21.

I think about the shit I did when I was young. If that got out, I'd be hosed.

People make money off of people acting stupid all the time. This isn't much different.

Isn't the guy in jail right now for not paying taxes or child porn(filming 16-17 year old girls that lied) or something?

My wife and I were talking the other night about being flashed. She said she was flashed by some dude when she was in her early 20's, and it was horrifying. I said I have been flashed lots of times and every single time it was awesome.

I thought at first it was weird that we would both have such vastly different reactions to seeing strangers bits unsolicited, but after consideration, I decided that if I had been flashed by some dude in a menacing way, it would probably creep me out too.... However, I don't think I could ever be flashed in a menacing way by a woman...

When a woman flashes you it's a tease, and not one she has any intention on following through with (usually). When a man flashes a woman it can be seen as a threat, and one that he may follow through on (though that's extremely rare).

Guys who flash are doing it for the sexual arousal of seeing a woman shocked. So in a way, they're forcing women to be a part of their sexual gratification.

I've never met a woman who got off sexually on flashing her tits. The reactions are gratifying...but it's all in good fun.

Maybe there lies the difference? IDK.

Because when the man flashed the woman there was no exchange of money involved.

It's a scientific fact that sex in the absence of money is a terrifying thing to women.

I lol'd too.

True story, friend of mine had a mother in law (she's since passed away) who looked like she could be on the Golden Girls. Just a cute little old lady. There was a serial flasher in her area, guy had been doing it for years and the police were taking it pretty seriously. Anyway one day he flashed her.

She pointed and laughed and the guy got ALL upset. He ended up flashing her like 2 or 3 more times trying to get her to scream I guess, but she just kept laughing at him. It wasn't a planned thing by her, she just thought it was REALLY funny.

Police never caught him AFAIK. And he was like almost a stereotype flasher. He'd use a trenchcoat, an old raincoat...and one time a robe.

Yeah but Orme, even if the man doesn't scream anything at all, assuming the woman is even slightly attractive the guy isn't going to be upset when the flash occurs. It's like, "mmm today's a good day."

I mean come on, if you are sitting at the mall on your lunch break or whatever, and some 19 year old flashes you, you won't be scarred for life--- you'll have a sloppy grin on your face and run back to work to tell your buddies about it.

Well, she has to be 18 to sign those forms. So, she's an adult and is able to make her own decisions, no matter how dumb they are. You can't hold it gainst the crew; they are just doing their job. It's not like they beat her into submisson to flash her tits or something. Those guys approached my sister and her friends with forms and cameras down in Panama City. They were all pumped to do it until I said, "Go ahead...wait until your moms and dads see you doing this in the video when it is released." They all promptly got back into my 4-Runner. Sure, I'm the killjoy...but girls at that age simply aren't thinking about the long-term effects when they get the chance to be attention whores on video on a wildly popular video franchise.

I think my worst fear would be to find out my daughter did a porn. That would be the ultimate in disappointment. Hell, even if a son did a porn I would be pissed. Once that shit is on tape, the whole world is going to see it, it will never go away, and it will shame them (and their family) forever....unless they and their family advocate that kind of thing.

Never understood the "shame us all" stuff. Really. Hell, the only reason it would shame anyone is if the family ran around howling, "WOE IS US, SHAME"

I don't think it's uptight. It's just that pre-1990 there was a certain freedom that could be had because the world was forgetful. That is, if you got pissed at me IRL and said "fuck you cocksucker" and punched me in the face, there might be a scuffle. 5 years later, nobody other than you and me would really remember that.

Now, the world has almost perfect memory. That fight gets recorded by someone's camera phone and it could haunt us. Fast forward to today, say I'm managing a project with a budget of $500k+ and someone finds that video of me getting knocked out. It would undermine a lot of my authority.

Anyway, I don't want to come across as if the world is ending. But, when I was 22, drunk off my ass on Mad Dog getting it on poolside with some chick - it seemed like a good idea. Now, that can end up on a Facebook page and ruin job opportunities.

Hell, even this website. I write stupid shit all the time. If this gets linked up with real-life, put into black and white, and taken out-of-context, it could be a probelm.

But see, why? Ok, so you were in a fight some odd years ago. Why do people even give a shit?

I dunno, maybe I just don't put a lot of weight in such things. If I saw a video of my boss in a fight, I'd laugh my ass off and that'd be it.

The point is, in today's Wired world, the shit you did as a crazy college kid can now have real impact on your current life, years later. When I was in college, and we went to spring break, there were the typical wet t-shirt contests that you expect. While there were a few people who filmed them (the fancy kids who brought handy-cams to Padre with them), those videos never saw the light of day outside of being passed from dorm room to dorm room when we got back. These days, however, if a chick enters a wet t-shirt contest, those pics have a MUCH more likely chance of making their way to the public at large and that can have real consequences on her future. We can argue that it SHOULDN'T, but the fact remains that it does. There's a certain high school cheerleading coach in Michigan who knows exactly what I mean.

There are repercussions for the things we do, whether they are deserved or not is debatable. Perhaps this will give people the impetus to realize that foresight is a valuable trait.

I've been flashed without warning by chicks before. In a few cases it was just some girl in a car passing me and some buddies, and BOOM, there's tits pressed against the window. And yet, I've still found little reason to complain.

You're the hiring manager for a firm and we get associated via LinkedIn. You see a picture of me getting into a fight - even if it was 5+ years ago. That wouldn't affect your decision to hire me if there are other viable candidates?

Honestly, unless there were some videos showing you burning kittens or something, I wouldn't care.

The only reason I might care is that I'd be afraid that some other holier-than-thou ass would see it and call my judgment into question.

which is a good enough reason for you to not hire him, because if your boss sees that, then his impression of you is going to be colored by that discovery

Yeah, which only shows that the said theoretical HR manager doesn't care, he's afraid that someone else will care, and that someone else probably doesn't actually care either, they're probably just afraid that someone further above them will care and....

It's just funny. Does anyone actually "care" or is it that, like many things, we're just afraid that someone will use it as a card to play down the road just to fuck with you, even though they don't really care either - but we all have to ACT like we care because no one wants to be the guy to say, "Why is this a big deal?" and break from the mob.

Yes people actually care. There's plenty of people who do say 'what's the big fucking deal', and apparently too many more who actually give a shit about this stuff.

Few years back a local cop in another town lost his job in part because ...he and his wife were swingers. That sordid little detail made the press, with a LOT more detail than was needed. I can assure you *I* didn't care, and I'm sure plenty of others didn't. But there's some religious folks who do. I know Mormons specifically give a shit. There's plenty of people who aren't necessarily tied to any specific religious belief who still believe that if people do stuff like that...they're perverts! Among other things.

All anyone can do is speak out against it.

There's also nasty little gossip sites that everyone complains about, especially on college campuses. I forget the one site that was most popular, juicy something? Whatever. I think it had legal woes and was forced to shut down (yay). I told people to JUST STOP FUCKING LOOKING. If you don't look, you take away the power. But nooo people insisted they weren't looking to participate, but rather to make sure nothing was said about *them*, or their friends.

Hello, that's participating. /headdesk

We all fall victim to mob mentality though. If not in this, then something else. I think recognizing our capacity and tendency towards it, is probably the first step towards snapping ourselves out of it and being the one to say 'hey wait...no...'

There are definitely parents who care within my school-- I feel the pressure almost all the time to act in a certain way if I wish to keep my job as a teacher.

This point actually worries me. What happens if we get to the point where the only people that are "safe" to run for office are people that didn't do jack shit their entire life? Some of the best leaders of our time didn't have spotless records, and those with completely clean lives are better suited to writing scripts for Sesame Street than running our country.

That kid in the corner that never got invited to a high school party may very well end up being the only guy left that is allowed to run for president!

Very simply put, don't do anything stupid on film.

Nah, the only people worthy will be the people that don't get caught.

That's the other funny part about the herd mentality thing. A pothead will condemn another pothead just because the one got caught doing it on film, so now everyone has to act as though they're mortified.

Here's the thing, if I know someone has been knocked out in a bar fight, it calls into question THEIR judgment. Bear in mind, there is a difference between this and finding out someone loves New Kids On The Block.

If I know you've been in a filmed bar fight, I'm not hesitant to hire you because I'm worried about what people think. I'm worried that you're an idiot.

If I had the ability to know EVERYTHING about a person I am interviewing, I would love to. Do they cheat on their wives, do they get drunk regularly, do they get into bar fights, etc.

Hiring is a lot of luck, but I certainly would prefer to take my chances on committed person with a family who does not drink and enjoys playing chess on the weekends :)

When you're paying someone $$$$ you are more concerned about getting a solid person than a cool person.

If you were to somehow mystically know everything about every potential employee, you'd never hire anyone. No one is perfect. Everyone has things in their background they aren't proud of. You're best just knowing what they present and judging them on their actual production, not on some random shit about their past.

yes but there's a marked difference between hiring someone that you will be responsible for who has been filmed and paid for showing their tits to a legion of dvd owners and hiring someone who has unpaid parking tickets

Yeah, exactly...I'm sorry, but EVERYONE here has done something that - if caught on film - would probably be "embarassing". I can't count the number of fights I got into in high school, heh.

Of course, if you weren't caught on film and someone else is, you get to act all self-righteous about it. That's part of what's so amusing, watching everyone act like such saints while judging someone who got busted on tape.
