This weekend I got a helpful reminder of what a pussy I really am.

I thatched my yard. I rented a machine that basically pulled all the dead grass off the dirt. It is pretty cool. However, it leaves the dead grass all over the place and you have to rake it up. Hindsight, I could have maybe come up with a better way to get the grass up.

Anyway - the point is that basically I did about 6 hours of physical labor. I am sore from head to toe and have blisters. As the wife and I laid around the rest of the night, I realized I didn't even put in a full day's work.

God I suck.

People who work real jobs serioulsy earn every penny.
Shit.

Don't cut yourself short, it's a different skill set!

Next time also rent a bagger or a local kid/minority.

I just helped my buddy put in a new fence and we built a patio off his back door last week. Took us 2 days putting in 10 hour days, and we're not even done yet. Hard work for sure, but I gotta say power tools and beer are a great mix though.

It's cool to sit back and look at what you built though.

then the buzz from the beer wears off and you see how crappy of a job you actually did :(

The buddy has to deal with that. So that's really a non-issue.

I'd be more worried about the incompetence factor rather than the beer buzz.

I agree with you because I've done physical work (only as a side job helping someone out for extra cash, I did drywall once. It sucked. It sucked big balls.) but it's also like anything else physical. Even if you're in shape, the first week or two blows goats. Then your muscles get used to the job you're doing and it's no longer problematic.

I just hate it because I'd rather sit on my ass in air conditioning. It wasn't the labor so much (once you get the muscles for it)...it was the HEAT that fucking sucked.

I have friends who love it, and think working in an office is hell.

As long as I have a/c...even the worst office job is tolerable. ;)

Working in an office is too boring for me. I like the fresh air and being with the public. And I love driving so I work as a courier. Not physically tough work but still active.

That was never true for me. I was always tired at the end of the day. I remember one time I lumped for Mayflower. Heh. That was probably the hardest physical job I ever had. The upside was - killer exercise. The downside.. soreness, and lots of it.

Once I started working sitting down, well, now I have to plan activities to get exercise, and that seems very "hamster wheel" to me. But, what are ya gonna do?

Ah, it probably changes then when you get a little bit older. I probably shouldn't compare teens/20 to anything later. Jeez to have THAT energy levels again. And that ass again! :)

I don't really get used to physical activity either. For a while there I was walking 3 miles back and forth from work. After a couple months I was in pretty good shape, but I ached every single night.

But I'm with Tarot in the fact that as long as I have A/C, any office job is tolerable. I can do tedious shit all day long. Which is probably why I got hooked in EQ to begin with.

Yard chores really don't fall under the category of 'real work'.

Sometimes I feel like the guy from office space. I have spent 15 years in an office environment and it would be a nice diversion to go and do landscaping or construction for a week or two.

When I have large home improvement projects, like laying tile, it's actually really refreshing. Not only do you get to buy new crap but there's a feeling of accomplishment that's pretty satisfying.

there is a machine called a Yard Vacuum. When I was a kid we used to thatch our yard once every few years. My dad would run the thatcher over the yard, we'd rake away from the fence and stuff, then I'd run the Yard Vac (this machine was called a Billy Goat) over the yard to pick up all the stuff (works great for leaves too). Was still hard work but a hell of a lot better than having to rake it all up.

I'd love to see most of you try something like this for a day. I guess I am a little sore the first night if I haven't done it in a week or 2.

The closest I've come to that is using a 6 foot long tile stripper. It felt like I was holding a damned lance. That was some fun shit, other than all the fine white dust I kicked up and breathed in.

Martial arts are a great way to keep yourself from wimpifying away from physical labor while also not feeling like you're "working". =)

Of course, the work involved with living on a big animal farm helps too.

But other than that, I'm a but computer nerd desk potato.

Where do you live? You should try your hand at a local improv comic group. Atlanta has some of those, not sure if Orlando? does or not.

I love stand-up, I've done it a few times (maybe 6 or so) and it's definitely fun. I've also done some comedy group work as well. ASU had an awesome improv group.

Give it a shot Leo, what do you have to lose? Just have fun. :)

Nah, I gave up being fat a long time ago. Too bad you can't give up being a huge pussy so easily. Crack yourself a cold one Mr I watched a guy dig holes for a fence and pack sackcrete for 10 hours. Seriously, you built a patio. You carry boards to a sawhorse and watch concrete set. Did the guy let you play with the chalkline?

Maybe I should become a plastic surgeon. Your daughters nose looks to be at least a ten year cash cow.

I don't dislike sky, I did at first. But now I take sky for what he is, so like alot of people around here, I ignore him when he's adding nothing. Don't feed him attention when he's being a dumbass is the best policy really. Because if you do, it ends up being this conversation we've had 7-10 times now. People complain about what he said, he says whatever it's the internet, and oh btw I'm in law school, rinse and repeat.

yeah, the so like torture comment was a bit over the top. It was the first thing that popped into my head :). It's the same kind of argument people sometimes made here in the past-- it's ok for us to torture, because they do it to us!

I'll happily retract that-- it was just me thinking out loud. But not the other. If we're going to get all over Sky every time he says "faggot" but have no problem with Given making fun of his kid to get at Sky, then yes, there's a double standard.

Except that people *are* all over Givin for making the comment about the kid, soooooo....

And yes, you can point out 1 or 2 who aren't, but you can also find just as many who have no problem when Sky breaks out the 'N' word, which he does more often around here than anyone else. Or 'faggot' etc.

Golly, I could have sworn I remember long sweeping posts from one of our moderators (who shall remain nameless) about how racist posts could get us shut down. Maybe that was just on Ezboard.

I guess what I wonder about is what the endgame is for skycrasher. Obviously, he will only continue to ratchet up the offense as our standards become less and less. There's nothing good at the end of this journey, heh. It's at the point now where the stuff on this board is pretty much NSFW. The only place left is posting offensive images. I guess that's the next stage of the process.

To be honest, I'm wondering what some of the old folks did who got banned way back in the day. Miggent comes to mind. What was Miggent's crime, again?

We're not on ezboard any more, perhaps you've noticed?

Posting nude photos of a poster on the forums, which generated very real threats of a lawsuit and caused problems with ezboard as it was a TOS violation. Which is why we also had to ban the poster who was victimized, because of the threats of lawsuit. Once someone threatens to sue, to allow them continued access merely increases our potential liability.

Had it been alot of other people around here, I certainly would have jumped all over Givin for that. I thought it was uncalled for, but considering skycrasher's record here....

I understand your logic when you said "like torture", but it was indeed over the top. :) We're talking about a message board here, and as much as ol sky dishes it, I just don't feel compelled to say anything when he gets it back.

As far as banning, I'm against banning sky. I'm generally against banning any active posters. We're in short supply.

Totally agree there. I don't want Sky banned at all. I honestly don't mind him nearly as much as some here apparently do.

I'm not a fan of his use of the N-word(or faggot, for that matter), but I'd also hesitate to get all Al Sharpton and call a reference to someone using it as distinctly racist. His comment in the other thread with his implication of what the officer might be thinking now was distasteful, but not racist.

Hardly grounds to ban someone, though I wouldn't complain about a stern warning. It's not really a word I like to see a tossed around either way.
