A threat doesn't have to be real to have a reaction. If I call in a bomb threat to my school, they will call the police and take precautions. It doesn't matter if the bomb is there or if there is a bomb. Is this so hard to understand?

It was a threat, regardless of if Vana followed through or not. Beating a dead horse here though. Vana already apologized, Sky is gone; the thread is over really.

I dunno...I think each and everyone one of us has posted SOMETHING over the years that would get us in trouble if we had a job like a K-12 teacher or something. Even a guy like Fribur has posted some stuff that could easily be taken out of context or something. ("Fuck off, Bovinity" comes to mind. =D)

Sky's a pretty major dick, I think we all agree there, but there are just times when a threat can go just a little too far. All the, "I'll kick your ass." stuff is one thing...but when a mod issues a very real threat like that - someone who has access to your IP addresses and could (Plausibly) figure out what area of the country you might teach in even if you don't tell them - and could follow through on the threat without any risk to themselves, yeah it could be considered over the line.

Does it really matter? No. But like I said, we ALL have posted some pretty shitty stuff over the years, even if only a little. And we all know we do it because we have the benefit of at least a little anonymity. None of us would talk to a coworker or child or etc the way we do to each other here sometimes. It's a little sad to see that veil threatened, even if only in jest.

Bomb threat is a bad analogy. Worse would be like saying to a friend "You don't think the school you teach at would have a problem with your midget bukake rape porn? Prove it." and them choking. A bomb threat has to be taken seriously on the off chance it's real. Sky was in no danger of Vanamar ever sending his post history to his job and he knew it. Van's a dick, but he's not that type of dick. You can say Sky was worried about it, but I'll call bullshit on that one based on Van's own history and the point that Bovinity made. All of our histories here could likely affect our jobs.

There was no threat here, no matter how many strawmen you want to make out of it. The closest thing to a real life threat was Givin insulting Sky's kid.

Skycrasher sent me a personal email. At this time I won't be posting it. I'm not trying to stir the pot. *I* am not concerned about Van ever doing something like that. If I even thought he was capable, he would not be a moderator. Period. I do not, nor have I ever thought he was seriously threatening Sky.

MORE IMPORTANTLY...Sky didn't think so either. His email expressed who he WAS concerned about very specifically. For the record the people he's concerned about have no positions of power as mods or admins. I also do not think the people he named would ever do such a thing.

The issue is, IMnotHO...that once it was out there, Skycrasher realized 'ZOMG, I could actually pay consequences for my asshattery'. He was an asshat for so long simply BECAUSE there were no consequences to it.

I posted earlier what I think of pus ridden shitbags who only do the right thing because of fear of reprisals. I don't need to revisit that.

We all agree (haven't seen anyone not agree yet!) that Sky is a douchebag. And hopefully most agree that even if he is a douchenozzle, the concept of losing one's job in this economy with a wife and kid after a major move is more than a little scary. Even if you don't think it's likely, the fact that it's possible has him freaking out.

So anyone who believed he should reap it...my honest opinion based on the emails I've gotten is that he's reaping it. He's reaping it in spades with the freak out melt down he's having.

As to the rest...well as far as crossing the line, FWIW I don't recall Givin ever posting about weight before, so Sky attacking that was the personal attack that crossed the line. That's mod hat off, just my opinion btw. And while I'm not thrilled w/ anyone attacking people's kids...if you use their pic as an avatar constantly, you're kinda making it fodder for comments. Again, just my opinion. I mean you post an occassional pic, whatever. You have them up constantly in a big giant pic while you're a walking douche, it's clear the troll is BEGGING for it so they can play the martyr. /shrug
