It is still unofficial, so I don't want to jinx it by going into details, but...

I decided when I was in my masters degree that I wanted to get a Ph.D. in Accounting and become a professor after I became a CPA and worked in public accounting for a couple of years. This past fall I went through the whole process of figuring out what programs to apply to, taking the GMATs, herding reference letters, etc.

I just got an email this afternoon that contains an unofficial acceptance to one of the seven programs I applied to. It is my backup school, so I am still going to wait to here from the others. But it is a HUGE relief knowing that, no matter what, I'll be starting a Ph.D. program in the fall.

Nothing feels better than getting in to a school that you really want to go to. When I was accepted to law school, my family and I had a big celebration. Sounds like one is in order for you. :)

Grats! How're you going to celebrate? And good luck on the other six! (Although maybe getting rejected from a few will make deciding where to go a little easier :))

I'm going to celebrate by not letting the rest of busy season stress me out. :D

I honestly don't expect to get into more than 2 or 3. The acceptance rate at programs like Texas and Indiana is under 10%, so I'm up against a lot of people who are as qualified for admission as I am with a very limited number of slots. And my research area is a bit of niche, which can either work for or against me. If the faculty working in that niche are currently looking to mentor a doctoral student, then its a plus. If they already have one or two they are working with, it is a minus.
