Anyone here do mincemeat pie for Thanksgiving? If so, does that actually contain meat?

Mmm, pies.

I've never been a huge fan of pumpkin pie, but it's grown on me the past couple years. But I definitely prefer pecan pie, even though it can be a little too sweet.

My immediate family hosts a dessert party every Thanksgiving. I'll probalby be eating both pumpkin and pecan pies precisely one week from the time of this posting. Not to mention the chocolate trifle, strawberry-rhubarb pie, and wheaties/chocolate chip/pepperkaker cookies.

Mmm, calories.

Turkey salad. Finely diced or shredded turkey, honey mayonnaise (homemade), sugared cranberries, stuffing. Add a slice of good cheddar and melt it. Mmmm.

I keep telling my family to brine the turkey for christmas/thanksgiving like 5 years in a row, ever since I saw it on food network. they don't. just toss it in the oven and wait for the thing to pop up, check if its raw and throw it back in if so, which dries it out even more cuz they just cut into it. then they drench it gravy and chew on a small piece of leftovers for a good half hour and call it good stuff.

of course i could just cook myself but meh. i did make an excellent roast one year. seared it, tossed it in a crock pot on low with two bottles of coke and some french onion soup for 8 hours. came out really good.

i can say i've never had good turkey. just dry chewy turkey that i salt the shit out of out.

Yes.

It's not nearly as amazing as you'd think it would be. Duck does not go well with turkey.

Do yourself a favor and brine the damn turkey even if you have to hold your family at gunpoint to do so. It really makes a difference. Extra 12-24 hours of time you gotta add to meal preparation, but it is so worth it.
