I agree, Tarot. I laugh at the comments/pictures that people came up with, but I'm definitely not laughing at the girl. Here is her comment about it, for those of you who missed it:

Quote:
Hm...so I've recently been the topic of several internet message boards conversation. I have a few bikini photos on there from a friend of mine. I never said I looked great in a bikini and wasn't going for high-quality photos. It was fun, purely for entertainment, and it was a beautiful day. Some people think I look great in the bikni, others (obviously) think the exact opposite.....

NEWSFLASH: I don't care whichever you think!! Everybody is entitled to their own opinion and I respect that.

Unlike some people, I have respect and dignity...oh yeah, I also have a LIFE.

Some of these comments I've read are freaking damn hilarious. Some are down right cruel which just shows me that people are THAT insecure about themselves that they have to put others down. Others just follow the crowd because they're fucking ignorant and have nothing else better to do with their pathetic lives than sit around on their asses all day and post on message boards.

How about....a fuckin' life, people?

I must admit, the photo shopped pictures seriously made me laugh and forward them to some friends of mine. Kudos to you photo shop artists. Remember, though, to never quit your day job.

I am confident in my skin and who I am. Other people's approval is NOT needed.

The fact that you all are spending hours and hours a day talking about me, I am genuinely thrilled that I can be your entertainment! I'm one step ahead of you and I'll be here all week.

With that, I will be continuing on with my life and keep laughing at yours.

Even pathetic people deserve praise! So, my hat's off to you kiddos!

Oh, and if anybody actually has the balls enough to talk to me directly, that would be totally awesome.

Til then, children.

Ellie

Of course it bothers her. It would bother anyone. No one LIKES being made fun of. All things considered, I think she's reacting reasonably well. Better than posting a bunch of "woe is me" blogs or some such. /shrug.

The funny thing to me is that she wouldn't be quite so unattractive without the horrible eye makeup and forced camera grin. No accounting for taste, I suppose. Either way, the thread itself is pretty epic.

Most of these kinds of threads just don't entertain me anymore.

This one especially bored me because of the 5 pages of posts with like 4 words on each. Don't damn post if you can't at least contribute some kind of thought! Even if it's just some kind of snipe, that's better than the 10+ posts on there that quote all the pics and then just say something retarded like, "don't want it."

The funnier thing to me is that she's FAR more attractive than any woman *most* of the guys on that thread can lure into their beds (sans roofies). There's a guy about 35 pages in who starts calling for the worst of them to post THEIR pictures. And noted that ALL of them who had posted pictures (as I guess it is a bodybuilding forum) had hidden their faces BEFORE posting.

I made it through to the 60s, and not one of those fuckers dared to post their personal pics. /shrug

And yes, of course it would bother someone. As little as I care about a bunch of morons like that, it would still bother me to some degree. Though much MUCH less at 36 than it would have in my early 20s.

I admire what she wrote about it, especially considering that yes, while she certainly mugged for the camera and took those pics, she had no intention of them being distributed and used in the fashion they have been. And if that's stupid...well I guarentee everyone here, especially every woman here has taken a picture they would be mortified if their family saw it. Or if it was plastered on the internet.

Considering some of the shit I used to wear in public places, I'm rather glad the internet wasn't around when I was 19.

Sky, I've seen your picture on the mural. You shouldn't talk about unattractive people.

It's funny someone posted about the eye makeup. Without that, the silly faces, and unflattering bikini - she is not terrible.

Hmm, wow, yeah ... huh.

I'm not sure why people are trashing her body (well, yes I am: because the Internet is anonymous and any picture is an easy target) since she has a better one than most women, but her face ... I mean, I'm a nice guy (most of the time), but my lord.

I probably wouldn't have said anything if she didn't seal her own fate using mascara to further deepen the dark, dark depths (of Hell? Taking bets.) into which her eyes were already sinking. But she did, and so I've paid my two cents.

Incidentally, it sometimes sucks how prolifically (and sardonically) e-word spreads. I hope she's kicking the crap out of her boyfriend (with the stilletos still armed) for pitting her against the Internet.

Supposedly she is not even the girlfriend of the original poster. I read the first few pages, skipped over a couple, spot read a couple other pages... and it seems like the OP found the pictures on her myspace page, and used them to make up said story for some laughs.

She says she isn't bothered by all the negativity... and yet she blogs about it multiple times on her page. To me, it seems like she is somewhat bothered by the situation (as anyone would be).

She says that she is strong and unfazed. I hope so. Because while some of those replies were pretty darn funny and made in jest... some of those replies were downright rude and hostile. We all need to be able to laugh at ourselves and our shortcomings because all of us have them... but all of us also have to draw the line somewhere where we no longer laugh at ourselves and are negatively affected by the comments of others. I just hope that she is strong enough to handle this, and that her actions back up her words.

Some of those photo chops, though, were hilarious. Best one was the pics of her from the neck down and the four guys cheering, and then you see her face and the four guys sit silently. I laughed :)

While I have some sympathy, I'm not entirely concerned. She put these photos up on her myspace for public consumption, and the internet being what it is, it's not like it's a surprise to anyone.

Are some people probably going a lil overboard? Sure. But past page 15 or so it was just people latching on and trying to get a lil e-glory out of the up and coming meme, Douches come out of the woodwork when anything seems popular.

I agree with Trax. Seen hotter, and uglier. Nothing special, and she didn't come out there acting like she was the hottest thing ever and the people who made fun of her were jealous of her beauty or any of that pretentious bullshit.

So, all in all, it's meh.

It's crazy that most of the people watching that who didn't take any action may have charges pressed against them, for assisting in suicide. In FL, from what I understand, suicide isn't illegal. However, assisting in it, is.

With the way the internet the way it is today though, who is to know for real whether or not someone is going to follow through on any attempt they may say they are going to do? I remember not too many years ago, some guy named Ripperx killed himself on a webcam -- I remember it because the guy was from Phoenix.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brandon_Vedas

I don't know what came of it, but I know people wanted to press charges against those who were in the chat room for not taking action sooner than they did.

I think there's quite a difference between someone saying something stupid and someone online with thousands of people egging him/her on to commit suicide. Would it be different if there was a similar situation where the dude had his 1 year old sister on camera with a gun to her head saying he was going to kill her if he got 100 people to tell him to do it? Are the thousands watching him do that simply free of any blame at all if he follows through and kills his little sister because it's the internet? I'm not saying everyone who logs in and catches a glimpse should be held accountable, but I don't think it's absolutely wrong that SOMEONE should suffer the consequences for pushing him over the edge. Obviously, someone agrees, as this demonstrates a similar line of thinking.

Why not blame....

oh....

maybe the person who actually DID it?

Really, I hate the "someone must pay!" mentality that we seem to have.

It's easy for these people to pass judgement AFTER the fact. It's easy to say, "Oh my god, that boy did something terrible, why didn't you stop it?!" but if I ran to the phone to call someone every time someone said or threatened something retarded on the internet, I'd be on the phone with the Secret Service reporting 367,347,216 Obama assassination threats and with the police reporting 6,347,152,844 suicides/murders/molestations.

Every single time someone has talked about suicide on the Lanys forums, I've sent the cops out. That happened a total of three times. It always entailed a lot of work.

I've good reason to believe in one of those instances it made a critical difference.

I'm sorry but if you see someone standing on a fucking ledge saying they're going to jump...attention whore or no, you have an obligation as a human being to do something proactive. If you can justify it to yourself that you didn't have a cell phone and there was no easy phone booth to find, and you didn't know the address of the building anyway and hey lookitthat you're late for work...and they're probably just an attention whore...someone else can do something...go for it. I sure as shit can't.

But even that is far better than the fuckers who gather below chanting 'jump'.

Or the group who is even worse, who are screaming every personal insult in the book, telling the person they're worthless and yeah go ahead and do it because no one fucking cares. The most attention you'll ever get in life is mob screaming for you to end it.

I'll shed no tears that these assholes find out that they're not as anonymous as they might think, and that their actions have consequences they will have to bear.

Like folks who post pictures of someone stabbing their eyeballs out because they deem someone to be that ugly?

Yes, because you completely ignored my follow up posts on that.

Again, if you can justify it to whatever you use for a conscience...go for it. I don't assume your moral standards are mine. I just have opinions about the people who can do those things.

And in all seriousness, if you truly can't see the difference between finding something privately funny, and mocking another person to their face (which is what those pictures turned into...I have a tremendous amount of pity for you. The fact that the girl became aware of the mockery was exactly why I felt bad about it (hence my follow up post). I'm not saying that in a holier than thou manner, it's just that I think that the people who are taking that position (and the people who can do what those people did as someone was taking their life) live in a world very very different from the one I experience. And from my vantage point, it's a dark and sad place.

Actually giving a shit about other human beings and recognizing that what we do, even in small ways, affects others makes for some hard work...but the payoff is worth it.

Am I perfect? FAR from it, but I adhere to my moral standards and I try very hard not to hurt other people. Life is hard enough. And in cases where I have actually hurt people (hurt their feelings even) I have no problems apologizing without reservations. I'm not made bigger or better by making anyone lesser.

I guess the only thing that boggles my mind is how 'Don't be an asshole' is such a difficult concept for some people. Then again, some guy about 2,000 years ago allegedly was nailed to a tree for pretty much advocating just that concept.

Oh I should post my adventures with Laura's Taffy Shop. It was not fun. Then I returned home figuring I'd just order some online and have them shipped, but then the prices made me QQ.

I do have a 5 pound box which isn't getting eaten around here. Granted you have to come to CA for it...but you'd be welcome (kids and all). Just give me 6 mos notice to clear out the spare bedroom sans junk room sans 'fire hazard'.

Just funny to me that the person in this thread who posted the first, and arguably the worst, thing in regard to the woman in question is now experiencing Troll's Remorse and is lecturing everyone on morals and whatnot. <3

She reposted a funny picture from the thread. She didn't exactly go to the chick's house, punch her in the face, and call her an ugly fucking cunt. Quit being a dumbass.

I'm pretty sure the entire discussion was about people doing mean things on the internet, not in person.

As soon as you pull out the "I have a life" card on the internet you have officially lost.

No, as soon as you make it a contest of any sort, you lose. There's always someone better.

Yeah, I wonder what that's like....being able to point at something and say, "No, actually, there is NOT anyone better than me." =D

I believe that is Jameson Parker in "Prince of Darkness".

Although, by now, it's really just an internet troll device .gif more than anything!
