Quote:
Carrie Dashow dropped a large dollop of lemon sorbet into a glass of Guinness, stirred, drank and proclaimed that it tasted like a "chocolate shake."

Nearby, Yuka Yoneda tilted her head back as her boyfriend, Albert Yuen, drizzled Tabasco sauce onto her tongue. She swallowed and considered the flavor: "Doughnut glaze, hot doughnut glaze!"

They were among 40 or so people who were tasting under the influence of a small red berry called miracle fruit at a rooftop party in Long Island City, Queens, last Friday night. The berry rewires the way the palate perceives sour flavors for an hour or so, rendering lemons as sweet as candy.

I am soooo buying some of these. Have any of you tried it?

My wife and I have a huge sweet tooth.. if we can eat asparagus as desert, wow....

There's some more information about Miracle Fruit here:

http://buy-miracle-fruit.com/things-to-do-with-miracle-fruit.html

Quote:
Generally, any sour food will taste sweet, while any already sweet food will taste intense.

Lemons/Limes A must try. Very sweet, allows you to taste pure lemon/lime flavor.
Granny Smith Apples Great candy-apple flavor, sweet.
Mangoes Creamy and sweet, a favorite.
Wine Gives a slight boone's farm sugary taste to any wine.
Strawberries Taste as if you have left them in sugar overnight, a favorite.
Vinegar Apparantly very sweet and tasty.
Goat Cheese Like cream cheese frosting.
Grapefruit Kills most of the tartness.
Tea/Coffee Noticeably kills the bite, especially in coffee.
Stout Beer (Guiness) A sweeter, milkier smooth flavor that some describe as milkshake-like.
Red Bull Tastes like candy soda. VERY sweet.

You don't have to grow your own trees either- you can buy Miracle Fruit tablets, which have the same effect and a longer shelf life.

I'm tryin to have a little party with the berries as well. I've seen those tablets, but I've got a veritable orchard at my house so I figure I might as well give it a shot.

I got a call this morning from the guy I bought them from, and since I got two (and made him an assload of money), he's throwing in another for good measure haha.

Bought 2 packs of the Thinkgeek product on ebay. Cost $30 with shipping.

Going to break them out at a party next weekend. I expect fun will be had.

I'll be interested in reading first hand experience with this.

This was the first thing that I was curious about. Eating grapefruit is worse than eating lemons to me.

Oops, I was supposed to post about this earlier. I forgot.

A few friends and I tried some of the miracle fruit tablets, as seen here. It definitely removed the tart- and sourness from any food, including vinegars and citrus fruits. I was expecting these foods to, instead, taste sweet - which was true for some, such as lime - but many of the foods simply no longer had its previous tart or sour flavor.

Limes were very tasty, but nothing else struck my fancy (that hadn't stuck it pre-miraclefruiting).

It was a fun experience, but a little bit of a let down (which I sort of expected).
