Looks interesting. I picked one up; I'll post something sort of like a review in a couple weeks.

So it is basically a stick with just the nicotine and none of the smoke. So you are left with the stimulation and addiction but the other side effects are mostly tossed out. While I still wouldn't go near it (I wont even touch caffeine anymore). It could be great for bridging the gap between smokers and the anti smoking Nazis.

Well, it's obvious to me that I can't quit, at least not now.

My initial investment, counting US$28.xx shipping, was $225. That includes the equivalent of five-and-a-half cartons of smokes, though, which I'd pay about that much for anyway. This way I also get the device, the charger, and two batteries. So far the advantages I've imagined for it (but will reality check when it gets here) are:

- I can smoke in my apartment (or my car) and not make the place smell like smoke.
- I can smoke in bars, because it's not a cigarette (whether the ban applies is mostly up to the bartender).
- I don't have to leave my apartment, ride an elevator to the roof of my building, smoke a cigarette, and ride back down, all during a "10-minute" smoke break every third boss fight on raids.
- I won't get lung cancer. (Liver issues and about a quarter of the heart problems are actually from the nicotine, so those are still there.)
- The device is smaller than a pack of smokes. Less volume of stuff in my pockets.
- I don't have to carry a lighter, either.
- My clothes won't smell like smoke all the time.
- I won't freeze my balls off outside all winter.

I forgot one:

- No secondhand smoke.

When you do your review, answer this: do you find yourself "smoking" more often or less? With so many barriers removed, will this device simply boost your reliance on nicotine?

The thing that gets me is that it's simply a nicotine substitution. While on average oral nicotine items have proven to be 'better' quit smoking aids than others (patch, etc.) ... most people don't switch to them.

In my mind it's like using nicotine gum at work because you can't smoke there, or something. /shrug

This is not a "quit smoking" aid.

The patch is what helped me. That and the fact that my wife quit at the same time. I dont think I could have quit if I lived with a smoker.

Funny story, you can't actually do that with the Gamucci. Because it's dealing with pure nicotine, there's a safety installed that prevents inhalations longer than 8 seconds, or too many inhalations in a short period of time (the website doesn't specify there).

What's the word on these? My wife smuggled cigarettes home and I found them and smoked them... that pretty much spring-boarded us both to a 2 week long smoking binge... Trying to re-quit - today is the first day.

Hey, this sounds like a vaporizer, except much more stylized and practical. Which makes me wonder, if people are that hooked on nicotine and their only reason for quitting is health why not buy a vaporizer (they aren't illegal are they?)? It's a bit more expensive but you don't have to keep buying 'cartridges'.

It's safer to have something that meters dosages. Nicotine is quite deadly even in small amounts. It's also not healthy in and of itself, it's just more healthy than inhaling soot.

The first battery died after a month's use. The second one was inadvertently sent through the wash, which killed it. Having already screwed up most of the ritual habits ancillary to smoking, I had little trouble quitting cold at that point.
